New issue of STG Gameside to feature shmups forum members!

The new issue of Shooting Gameside, out on March 25th, will feature an article on three of our very own: abschüssig, iconoclast, and Gus! There's also stuff on this very forum, STG Weekly, and more!

All three were very good sports and took the time to answer all the questions we could come up, so please check it out! It's a great read; and it's all in Japanese! Seriously, though, maybe we can work something out where we can post the English originals. I'll let you all know.

Gus groupies will definitely want a copy or two as it features candid photographs of the legend that would look handsome plastered over any bedroom wall.

Wow that is awesome, again bridging the gap between the west and Japan. Those are some fine specimens of players! Am honored to have STGW written on, of course, it's thanks to the community coming together.

Great stuff, seemed almost too good to be true going through the post. Good to see community achievements having an impact, like I assume there's a chance abschussig held onto the Homura WR.
Nice cover too, wonder if there's anything notable about this issue's R-Type theme or if it's just the usual stuff.

Awesome!

I remember the SGS editor said something about wanting to release English PDFs online or something, I really hope we can convince him to pursue that idea. Even just a "Gameside Quarterly" with collated material from all the different mags would be neat.

There's an interview with a couple of old Irem composers, a feature with some Akio artwork, R-Type and Irem history articles, an article about R-Type clones, etc.

Neat.

I'd certainly pay a little bit for an English PDF version, would be cool to read all those R-Type articles. I like the idea of the magazine, but having zero Japanese skills I'd just look at the pretty pictures once or twice and store the thing afterwards. Don't really want to pay just to fill up my shelf with material I can't actually read.

This is super awesome! Really glad to hear that STGWeekly is getting some recognition as well! abschüssig, iconoclast, and Gus are all well worthy of all of the praise.

Congratulations everyone. After seeing Gus' run of Mushihimesama-Futari Ultra on STGweekly, I'm surprised he wasn't mentioned sooner. This forum has many skilled players.

Looking forward to seeing the interviews.

What? STG Weekly is mentioned in an issue of Shooting Gameside? Golly gee, we're so honored...

If the Japanese shooting game scene ever wants to due a full feature interview/article about STG Weekly, we'd be happy to answer any and all questions. I can also supply plenty of pictures of our past shmupmeets to feature the STG scene out here:

video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRjiIPEm174

We're really trying to lay down the foundation of a "Wasshoi in USA" ala Stunfest and crew, I think we're inching closer and closer, especially with events like STGWeeklyLive @ SoCal Regionals. Actually, I'm trying to do an event that will go even further...to push the envelope so to say...

If onitama/beautiful pcb comes out he could feature my garcade, etc. hahah http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_jy_T1a ... JDxsRAX-_Q

Stay tuned,

The interviews were done some time ago, so it's been a while since I've last spoken with Gus, and now he isn't replying to my PMs. If anyone here knows his email, how to contact him, or where he may be incarcerated, please let me know. It'd be a shame if he never found out he made it into print.

Whoa, this is great news, this issue will definitely be the highest valued issue in the U.S, especially if an English transcript was released. When did the interviews take place?

Maybe he has mails turned off. He sort of abandoned humanity to go further with Ultra after chubow sorta stopped playing so at this point I think your only chance may be to gather 7 Dragonballs.

Or... have you tried his twitter? (@gusyphus)
