I think so. I did a credit-feed run last Friday on both Normal and Expert while at a friend's house and stage 8 was on the Expert run.

1CCed Simple mode in Crimzon Clover as both Type 1 and 2. No great feat, considering how liberal the game is with extra lives, but it still took me a few tries, as the TLB gobbles my lives like Pringles. Never did figure out a viable way to consistently avoid his attack; I just had to enter the fight with plenty of lives.

There have been a handful of cases around here of high-level players acting incredulous that anyone could possibly consider easier games or modes to be challenging, or will respond to almost any comment about a game with "that's not hard at all" or "we're pretending that's difficult now?"Bonus! wrote:What's up with this victim mentality?MrOldSchoolCool wrote:Anybody here actually care though?
As you said, that shouldn't matter, though. No matter what anyone else says, what's actually important are your personal milestones, and your first 1cc is an important one. So congrats! Do you know what you want to tackle next?

Yeah, that's the kind of thing I was worried about. While I like to give most people the benefit of the doubt, I know that elitism exists to some degree on this board. What's especially ridiculous about people behaving the way you're talking about is that those are generally guys who have played these games to death. Not everybody has to be so hardcore, and can be happy with their relative goals.Keres wrote:There have been a handful of cases around here of high-level players acting incredulous that anyone could possibly consider easier games or modes to be challenging, or will respond to almost any comment about a game with "that's not hard at all" or "we're pretending that's difficult now?"Bonus! wrote:What's up with this victim mentality?MrOldSchoolCool wrote:Anybody here actually care though?

Thanks for the congrats! I think I'm going to try to 1CC Lords of Thunder next. It's an easier old school game, but I love the game and a 1CC would be a great excuse to spend some good time with it. After that, I think I'm going to try Futari Original mode or maybe Batsugun (Saturn port on the way in mail!). Batsugun seems like it will be damn hard with the skills I have now, but it will be good to learn
I've been filming these 1CC attempts and plan to upload them to my channel to see what my viewers make of them. They might be a bit more impressed than some of the people here

Got the Pink Sweets Arrange 1cc tonight. My last run ended with a double KO against the TLB.
I might try to take the western record. There's certainly areas where I could do better if I kept my wits about me.
Also playing the Arrange Score Attack course as well. Would love to knock trap off his throne as well.

If you look at my 1cc list you will see that I've spent way too much time with this. It's the most addictive kusoge ever, I almost feel like I should figure out the scoring mechanics and write a guide or something.Otomedius Excellent
Anyhow yes, 1-8 is Expert mode only, so go ahead and just kick the difficulty up. To be honest there isn't all that big of a difference difficulty-wise between normal and expert, so if you can no-miss normal you should be able to take out expert with very little additional effort. Stage 1-8 expert is actually easier than 1-7 normal.
If you want something a bit more challenging (SuperSoaker360) try clearing with the DLC character Kokoro Belmont using only her default weapon set. The 3 DLC stages are also quite a bit more challenging than the main game, particularly the Twinbee stage. They follow stage 1-8 when playing score attack mode.

Just 1CC Ikaruga on PC. I didn't remember having so much difficulties the first time I 1CC'd it, maybe I'm just tired or something.
Since the game permit it on the PC port very easily, I also tried Double Play. Honnestly, I didn't have this fun in a game in a long time, actually managed to finish level 1, 2 and 5 in easy without much much much problems. (only much much problems, cause two ships :v). I'm kinda interested now in doing the Double Play 1CC in easy, not sure though how much work it actually requires.

I would try out the DLC but it's all very pricey though i got arnval's costume because of her seiyuu
I actually like the OP to this game. The song is pretty catchy and I like it more than the OP to SDOJ and Ginga Force (though Ginga Force has a seriously killer soundtrack to make up for it).
How do I unlock the other characters in this game?

The DLC soundtracks are really great too, so much classic Gradius love. The Erul Tron pack (Salamander remixes) is 1000% worth the money even though it's expensive for music DLC.
Yeah that spot in stage six can be rough with certain character/weapon setups. Platonic Break is usually the best way to deal with them, but if you have a character with a shitty break like Aoba you have to precisely line up your lasers or bomb spam. Luckily there not many (any?) other places in the game where you really need the bombs, so you can just spam away if you want to.
As for characters I can't remember if Esmeralda and Poini Kune are unlocked by default, but for Aoba Hyper you have to finish (credit feed OK) Expert difficulty with Aoba. However, Aoba hyper is really just a shitter Aoba. The other two are DLC, Kokoro and Strarf. Kokoro sucks as a character but is interesting and a little bit challenging, and Strarf is a really good and fun character. Strarf is actually the most fun to play in the game imo.
Yeah not terrible, just sloppy. It's certainly not as objectively bad as Salamander, so that's... something I guess.pseudo wrote:just bought it yesterday and yeah idc what anyone says that game isnt terrible. and i guess il go for the expert no miss then, normal only took me like 3 tries. the yellow girl with the ridiculous cleavage with the gravity weapon and her options that stay in place is so powerful lol
And yeah Diol is by far the best character because of the lock options. You should be able to tear apart Expert pretty easily with her.

Battle Bakraid normal course clear!
Got a good boss draw on the last round and had the special homing options for the first four stages which helped. Happy to add another clear to my short list. On to advanced course next I think.

Re: I DID IT! Share your latest 1CCs/other triumphs here...
Stumbled upon this topic randomly, figured I'd post:
Chronoblast 2-ALL
HOLY SHIT the amount of progress I made on this in the past month is pretty astounding even by my standards. My best score on this now is just a shy bit above 2B, if I ever had a perfect 2 loop run it COULD hit 6B with Grace and about 5B with other characters. It is tough to even consider going for that kind of score since I would need to be able to route 2nd loop stuff which I can't do without the ability to practice it at all. A big roadblock in loop 1 is basically being able to get through the 3rd midboss without dying or using a bomb with Grace, it's much easier with Akane but Grace can get score so much more easily in comparison if it weren't for that one part.
The 2nd loop isn't quite the nightmare one might think it to be once you realize what you should do (kite like a madman, if you're like me only playing it to 2-ALL basically, a bit of liberal bombing in 2-2 if you feel you are in danger, just need 3 bombs to safely get through the 2nd boss.) The most important thing is basically to just not veer across the screen so much after destroying a cluster of enemies unless you know what you're doing or trying to position yourself before they actually try to track onto you.
Regardless though, very few things have made my heart race like this did facing the TLB, the atmosphere, the music, the pressure, everything. I hope to stream sometime soon and try to get to the TLB with a good score 2B+ at least...

Props, good sir. That TLB is absolute madness, I'm not sure if it's Hibachi levels of craziness, but a 2-All is finitely one heck of an achievement.

Western Record in Batrider's Normal Course. Been pushing at it for a good couple months. Was having some close runs and lots of runs with potential but getting screwed over. But in the last week or two I implemented some new strategies, including picking up a Max-stock extend at the Bazzcok fight, to influence more drones / missiles / etc enemies for more medals overall. This turned out to be a viable tactic in Normal Course, along with gaining 100K from obtaining a max stock extend. It made the ninjas and rival bosses quite a bit more aggressive, but doable.
Thanks to these strats and solid play I was able to beat the record by a million points. A "D" score is possible for me, but right now I'm just relieved to have exceeded my goal of a 'C' score. Now, I may start focusing on Advanced Course again, which will be lovely. What a great game. I'm quite happy to have this score now. Many painful failures on the road.

Woohoo, I finally double played every level in Ikaruga! Well, I was in easy mode without seeking high score (specialy for level 3 and 4), nothing extraordinary impressive, but I'm still pretty glad of that.
For curious people, my scores are all on the Ikaruga PC Leaderboards.
And for even more curious people, video of my latest triumph:
Chapter 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NND0z0H3JY
Chapter 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iqtER2WXxI
Chapter 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcgzR9VEawc
Chapter 4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqOMpNSIpyU
Final Chapter (With S++ Rank!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxzXNWfCtnM
(Those videos are actually not up-to-date, I re-did levels 1, 2 and 5 today, and beated those scores, check the replay if you're interested, or I can do a new video if you want)
It barely took me few hours of practice to do that. Is Double Play easier than it seems, or do I have easiness for that (before yesterday, I never ever did Double Play, was a bit affraid by that)?

Congrats Aquas, that's amazing!
EDIT: Neptas, were you doing actual physical double play (two sticks/buttons or two controllers, one per hand) or using the PC version feature that allows you to double play with just one controller? Impressive regardless.

It looks like the PC version. You can tell by the difference in the loading screen in the XBLA version, I think. the "Now Loading" in the game window seems PC version specific. Very impressive, nonetheless, as I'm sure anyone who's tried the console ports of Raiden games with doubleplay knows how fucking crazy hard they are, let alone doubleplaying with two arcade sticks.
Two arcade sticks for doubleplay is probably a bit more difficult, if only because it's more difficult to control as you have to stretch your fingers more awkwardly (look at how the hands are held!), but either way, you have to visually keep an eye on two ships, which is just insane.

It is the PC version indeed, and it is certainly easier, specially for me who have kinda small hands (I think using arcade sticks who tear down my hands, but if I can find Ikaruga on arcade with 2 true sticks, I'd still try it).
Thanks for your messages. I'm now trying to do a higher score, not sure how much I should do though.
What can be consider good scores for Double Play? A rank? S?

Twin Tiger Shark (2-2) (shhh... it was on default 'easy'. Got it on my second try, at least.). There's no 'normal', so I'll have to give 'hard' a shot.

eXceed 3rd 1CC on Normal with autobomb off. Very good game, thanks to the Quickening for reminding me I had it. I think I'll go for an Ex clear now, I played through the extra stage and it doesn't seem too hard. Just need to learn how to do the Stage 5 boss adequately.
And I log most of my clears on Restart Syndrome, but maybe I should post an organized list in the thread here.

Re: I DID IT! Share your latest 1CCs/other triumphs here...
It was actually a Black Package clear, which, after watching some videos, I just realized is massively different from the original release. So no Ultra difficulty for me. There is one "Exceed" difficulty, though, which seems like too much for me anyway. One thing at a time, the Extra stage first.CStarFlare wrote:Go for the Ultra clear while you're at it.
Still, I'm impressed by how different the original release seems to be, like another game entirely.
