Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Searching for news about something only to discover it's all shit that mentions it by title but isn't actually fucking about it. Like with Crash you'd always get articles about Naughty Dog, who were the creators of Crash, and that's mentioned over and over and over and over again, while what I'm actually looking for isn't.
Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Sorry to hear. Did you not put your hands out to brace when you fell?null1024 wrote:Sidewalks in disrepair. Happily moving along, enjoying the fine weather, and then ran over a rather large gap that I didn't notice [about the size and depth of my hand]. Got launched forward and said goodbye to my front teeth!
luckily, we live in the future where you can get that shit fixed easily -- have a dental appointment tomorrow
But it's still annoying. I look like I lost a fight.
I remember like 10 years ago the missus was learning to rollerblade and she hitched up on a rock or something and fell forwards, and at the last second she moved her hands and took the ground full on in the face. Had a black eye and abrasions for a couple weeks - needless to say I got some filthy looks when we would go out together and people saw how beat up her face was.
I'm lucky from the almost 20 years of skating, I know how to fall and avoid getting hurt too badly; although I have broken both my wrists several times each.
Hope the dentist sorts you out.

Yeah, that doesn't sound like a little thing that is annoying.
In December I tripped over a heavy rubber mat that was set outside of a business' door (its corner had curled up and it was heavy enough not to give at all when I hit it). Caught myself with my arms but still suffered a small concussion, my right arm borderline useless for a month and a half and cost me $1,500 in medical bills. Tripping sucks.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Well, I've already gotten the teeth repaired [yay modern medical tech], even though I can't really use them [1: brand new, and 2: still a bit sore]. Barely even realized I'd fell until I hit the ground face first. I was almost home and had to go all the way back to the hospital in the area I had come from.
The medical bills will be a bit more than a little thing, but that's really it. Nothing's broken, whether it be my bones or the stuff in my pocket [last time I fell, I landed on my side and crushed my first PSP -- it developed weird internal shorting issues]. Would have bet money my nose was broken, nope. I'm just expecting a week or two of minor pain [still sore teeth, swollen nose] for my trouble. Even when it'd happened, it was 4/10 pain.

broken teeth huh, I once step through a small hole in drain coverage made from reinforced steel, with the steel sticking out... shaved an inch of skin from my skin... still have a slight dent in the deepest part.

I still have a couple notable scars on me: One when I hit my ankle on a pool step about 15 years ago, and another when I hit my forearm on the edge of a sign about 3-4 years ago.

I raise you with people who are supposed to know how to make coffee who are clueless. My friend ordered an espresso once, and the chick went, "Oh, you can't have an expresso, because we're out of milk". To which he replied, "well, there's no milk in an ESPRESSO". Then she went, "well, there's a tiny amount, isn't there"?gs68 wrote:When I try to order iced tea and the only option is a soft drink that's iced tea flavored (aka pre-sweetened iced tea).

Certain videos by internet reviewers like the Hidden Block contributors that have "featuring THIS other internet reviewer" but are really just handing over the reins of the entire video to them. I would have loved to see Tamashii along with Yungtown in "their" Pokemon X & Y rap video (as she would show off some actual PERSONALITY
), but it wasn't meant to be.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
People blasting their music so loud I can hear it several feed away despite the fact that it's on headphones. Aside from the hearing loss it's gonna cause (although that's not my business), it's just a plain rude source of noise pollution.
Similarly: people blasting music on their phone on public transit. I once had the misfortune of riding a bus where some folks in the back were blasting music on a phone at full volume. In hindsight, I should've told the bus operator so they could tell the kids to keep it down, because fuck if I was gonna confront the folks myself.
If you wanna share your music so bad, get a cord splitter Jesus Christ. You can buy one at Daiso for 1.50 USD.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
Some headphones are just really leaky with sound [sometimes they can be at rather low volume yet broadcastlike a boombox], although I understand that feeling. On the other hand, I usually end up dealing with surrounding noise by putting my headphones on. :Y
My actual little thing: GM:Studio Standard is free. Yay? But everything takes a billion years to build and test. Ew. Also, the default color scheme looks like dicks. And the code assist seems slower than GM5.3's [edit: that one is just because the popup has a whopping 750ms delay before it attempts to complete, I do wish I could have the old-style panel at the bottom of the window though that constantly updated...].
Sure, GM:S is fast, but I think I'd rather use GM8 [last time I used it, it was fast enough -- 400+ alphablended scaled items with no struggle on a relatively modest machine at 60fps, and that was almost 4 years ago, and it had a nearly instant build-test-edit cycle]. Or keep using 5.3 [if it was faster -- I'm really used to it's quirks otherwise, and have been using the thing on and off for nearly 10 years [well, GM5.x at least for nearly 10 years]].
and since I've been using GM5.3 forever, the jump is like going from 5->6 but with even more differences.

Yeah, GMS compile time does kind of suck, but part of that is the amount of changes involved in the backend. This isn't quite the "gmk in an interpreter in an exe" like it used to be. ENIGMA is pretty slow for compiling too, but it's compiling to straight C++. GM8 is very nice though.

Those who openly admit they don't pay for any of the music they listen to. Such crap the other day when I was asked(staring at my screen is one thing. lol) why I try making money off my music. They tried to justify not paying and I just wanted to cry.

There's a difference between openly admitting it and trying to justify it.lilmanjs wrote:Those who openly admit they don't pay for any of the music they listen to. Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
It's a shame that there aren't more alternatives for providing revenue streams for artists (I think that revenue sharing on YouTube videos might work, but it takes a lot of views to make anything worthwhile), and the groups that are big enough to try generally have lost consumer confidence.lilmanjs wrote:Those who openly admit they don't pay for any of the music they listen to. Outside of ad-supported websites, I don't remember when I last provided any money that could conceivably go directly to musicians. I have a good number of physical CDs but most of these have been long since "amortized" and were bought second-hand (even if many don't look like it).
Anyway, I imagine you probably don't want to have it out over here and just wanted some public sympathy - yeah, stuff sucks. I question the established views of intellectual property rights, but most of the stuff I see from people is just wrong-headed, petty, and grubby to the extreme.

Most of the music I listen to has been either internet radio [so, ad supported], my own stuff, or free releases [since all I listen to is DI.fm and OHC musiclilmanjs wrote:Those who openly admit they don't pay for any of the music they listen to. well, maybe it might have been more recent than that, might have bought a bandcamp release or two I was linked to on IRC but I can't remember how long ago it's been and I've probably lost the songs :Y
On the other hand, people who tend to talk about not buying music tend to just look up a torrent site and download everything. Bleh. That's not something to brag about, that's like bragging about being poor.

Enigma under Linux hasn't been too slow for building [still a pain], but under Windows it takes way too long. Embarrassingly long.BPzeBanshee wrote:Yeah, GMS compile time does kind of suck, but part of that is the amount of changes involved in the backend. 'S a shame Enigma seems to be in the "just incomplete enough that I don't want to use it even though it's just complete enough to almost use nicely" stage. I never expected it to get so far though, so I guess that's something.
man, I really do wish you could still buy a GM5.3 license, haha -- kind of not for my sake [of course], but because it's a solid program that's rather different from more recent versions and happily targets older machines
I think I like pre-Studio GM documentation a bit more, seemed to be a bit more nicely laid out. The extra info that GM Studio's docs have are nice though [a bit better than just a short description and function signature].

The thing about the music is that the main thing was they tried to say making music isn't a real job, so why pay for it? Such stupid logic.

on the other hand, if they are really poor, and cant really afford to pay for it, i would give them a concession, but if you can afford, you should pay

I hate when people say something is easy but don't explain why it is easy. You are a great help, thanks.
Facebook status' piss me off sometimes too. Whether it's some kid trying to sound bad ass or some kid being like "I went to the gym today and barely walked a mile," somehow they garner a ton of likes. I guess it's just standard affair though. But one of the status' that always get me is when they start with "Dear <someone>..." It's like they are too cowardly to actually say this shit up front to the someone so they have to write a letter to the world to show what an asshole they are.
Fuck, I also hate those stupid articles people post that contain atrocious writing. These articles usually have an overly-sarcastic tone and it's just a pain to read.

Re: Little things that annoy the hell out of you
404! You didn't find what you were looking for! But don't worry, we will maybe look at a log file and note that somebody tried to get an old article (under our old directory structure, or maybe our long-since-abandoned CGI/Perl/whatever identifier, which has since been replaced with an even worse system), which will do nothing to help you go from the original URL, which is stored statically somewhere or other (referrer? what's that), and to your desired content. Instead we'll just pretend the content didn't exist, even though we spent real resources writing it, or maybe we'll cross our fingers and hope Archive has a copy.
