You can download a sample from the title track off the upcoming Arsis EP, which is supposedly 13 minutes long :o. Sounds like it will be amazingly awesome.

Alice Cooper = my hero. And that's one of my favourite songs of his. I need to get my hands on that cover.

You should check out In Battle. Apparently they used to be a black metal band but on the newest album they have a more death metal sound. Awesome, awesome stuff.... and their drummer is ridiculous.

Death, Cynic, and Pestilence as was mentioned above. Spheres by Pestilence is genius and so far ahead of it's time that is was basically cast out by death metal fans. Death's last album, Sounds of Perserverence is fantastic, and shows off the drumming greatness of Richard Christy who is now on the Howard Stern show.

Man closest thing to "death metal" I've listened to in a while is Stratovarius. Great stuff though that doesn't really count I guess.
