DVDO iScan Pro issues

Post by venchia3 »

Dear all,
I subscribed long time ago and being a lurker for quite some times now :) I found all of the discussions around here to be the best and most informatives when it comes to gaming hardware, that's why (after some days of unfortunate researches) I'm posting this topic. I would really like to have someone's opinion about an annoying issue I'm having with an iScan Pro linedoubbler.

Basically I purchased this iScan Pro from a sort of italian version of craiglist. Seller assured me that everything was in perfect working condition, but when the item arrived at home I noticed some problems with the unit. As of now the only system I have hooked up to the iScan is a PS2 through the official Sony component lead, which works perfectly when used stand alone connected to the component input of my TVs.

First problem I noticed right after the first start...the psu buzzing! Not a good sign at all, but after a minute or two the high pitched sound faded and ended completely. The biggest issue, by the way, is that the unit shifts brightness automatically, like I'm moving the brightness knob all the way up. To return to a normal image I have to turn the brightness knob all the way down and then again in center position. Sometimes it works perfectly for half an hour, then the image starts to blink from a darker to a brighter picture at random.

I'm really pissed off because I'm really liking the image it produce with my SLG-mini, so I was wondering, what it could be? The PSU going bad that makes the unit shifting brightness or it's something related to the knobs themselves and thus an issue right into the pcb of the iScan?

Thank you for stopping by and having a read :)

Best,

Matteo

Good chance that the PSU causes all the trouble. I think to remember that the iScan Pro runs fine on a strong 5V PSU just as well. Otherwise you can find proper 6V replacements on eBay.

Thank you for the reply :D
I wondered was something related to the psu, but before spending more money on a proper new one I wanted to have someone else opionion and your, Fudoh, are really valuable to me!

If I can ask one more question, am I right to think that something similar could be the best choice?

Cool! Just ordered it, will report back when it arrives :)
Just hope that the bad psu didn't harm the unit in any way, because as I said it produce a really nice image if it works correctly :D

when i got my iscan pro with the original psu, it was making a lot of noise as well. it actually introduced some noise as well to the image, so i'm curious why they used such a bad unit in the first place.

does anything happen when you wiggle with the knob? not actually turn it, but wiggle it left and right, eventually press it down.
