Yeah I was thinking that. However I'm not sure how to reset all the settings on this model.ryu wrote:you should calibrate on default settingsTempest_2084 wrote:ture using the 240p suite on the DC. Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
What adjustments are available? If all settings I use in my guide are there, you should be able to get a perfect image. The only thing that might need changing from different systems are the brightness setting. Or are the picture controls digital?Tempest_2084 wrote:Yeah I was thinking that. Hi emphatic, if you have a link to a good explanation on how to perfectly set a screen with digital picture controls, I'm super interested.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Oh the usual settings. From memory:emphatic wrote: What adjustments are available? If all settings I use in my guide are there, you should be able to get a perfect image. The only thing that might need changing from different systems are the brightness setting. Or are the picture controls digital?
Brightness
Contrast
Color
Tint
Sharpness
Red Level
Green Level
Blue Level
If you go into the service menu you can get a few more:
Red Black Level
Green Black Level
Blue Black Level
and one that I can't remember the name of, but it has something to do with the sharpness.
I also have some pots I can adjust in the SCART to Component converter as well. It's one of those CSY-2100 knockoffs (CVS-287)
Of course there's also the standard geometry adjusts as well. I've been struggling with these as the top of the screen bows in a little, but I can only change that for the sides (Pincushion).
I looked at your guide, but unfortunately I can't access some stuff like RGB Cutoff (which actually sounds like it might be the problem). This is basically a monitor that takes TV inputs as well.
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
those RGB black levels should be the RGB cutoffs you're looking for

Ahh ok. I had absolutely no idea what those did. I believe that they're all set to 0 at the moment and when I adjusted them nothing noticeable happened. How do they work exactly. I've been fighting a slight 'blue tint' problem and I'm wondering if this might be the solution.ryu wrote:those RGB black levels should be the RGB cutoffs you're looking for
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
if they're the same as cutoff, they should control the brightness of dark colors

RGB CUT OFF: I like to say that this is the ”canvas” upon which the game board then will draw the graphics (using the RGB GAIN/DRIVE channels) by pushing RED, GREEN and BLUE in the amount and mixture needed to get all the colours used by the game’s palette. CUT OFF = The background colour. These pots are on the main chassis under the front of the screen.
RGB GAIN/DRIVE: Using these channels the game board can produce any colour it needs by mixing the amount of each together. Anything from one single red dot, fill the whole screen with white or nothing at all = black (if the RGB CUT OFF is correctly tuned). GAIN/DRIVE = The foreground colour. These pots are on the remote board inside the door with the coin mechanism.
Conclusion: The CUT OFF is like a lamp screen and the GAIN is the colour of the light bulb.

Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
Right, I can understand that, but at the moment they're all set to 0. So does that mean that they're at maximum brightness or minimal (this being the black level after all)? If I wanted to say tone down the blue and brighten the whites (they're more light gray at the moment) how would I adjust this? Would I turn up the green and red black levels to get rid of the blue tint or does it not work that way?emphatic wrote:

The screen is kind of dark to begin with (which is why contrast and brightness are at max), if I can fix those colors and brighten it up I'd be happy.

Anyone?DavidJP wrote:Hey everyone
Im living in Japan and just find a old Sony CRT TV KX-29HV3
There someone here who know it ?
Screen size 29
Horizontal resolution 800 lines
Japanese RGB 21 pin input (15khz)
Pretty good , right?
Btw it's a monitor not a TV
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
Looks like a PVM 2950. If it has same internals as your average PVM monitor then, yeah, that is a great find. The 800 line resolution suggests that it does, by the way.
But why ask other people whether it is good or not, you have the screen in front of you, just connect a Super Famicom or some other system via S-Terminal or RGB21 and confirm with your own eyes.

Actually I dont have it, but I'm intending to buy it
The problem is i can't test it before actually buy it, the seller is 700km away
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
For what it is worth I say get it. Looks like a PVM quality monitor from SONY from the 2000's since it has an OSD. Quality should be on par with the L series I would guess.
Unless the hours on the unit are ludicrous then it is sure to be a good use of your money. I am going to go ahead and guess that CRT monitors of that size and build are a rare sight indeed in Japan.
Personally I would kill for something like that. Seriously take a human life, if not a few, for a sleek unit like that with low hours. I would commit genocide for a brand new unit, without batting an eye.
In short, GET!

Wow, Japan even got the better PVMs. Look at that connections. Compared to the single set of BNCs on most of the western models that's pure luxury.
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
my guess is that they sold the pvm2950 as a consumer set in japan

Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
2950's didn't have OSD's though, did they? 2530's certainly did not.
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
They do then, do they. Well that solves the mystery, looks like a 2950 then and a most worthy specimen indeed.
I should castrate myself for selling my 2530 because I thought it would be too troublesome to ship cross continent. Sniffle, I do miss it so.

That KX-29HV3 is nothing short of stunning.
I'd KILL to own anything that nice. Moon runes all over it too, sexy.

no, you can't carry the geometry and convergence settings over from one monitor to the other.I have a Sony BVM-20F1E. Can you give me your setting for alignement?
call up a grid test pattern (channel 096 I think) and just go through the alignment menu and adjust every setting until every's fine. What advice can you give me For a correct adjustment?

Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
what about tuning EVERY parameter until you're happy with the results ? I mean, just go through the menu, hit the Return button on every single menu item and turn the adjustment knob all the way to the left and right to see what changes. Once you know what it does, calibrate away... Just remember that you have to re-do the settings seperately for most of your sources. Can you give some advices for the other parameters to tune please?
Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
Thanks Fudoh I will do that!

Re: Fudoh's ode to old display technology
I want to connect a BVM-D32E1WU to a PC. The PC outputs RGBHV and I have a DVI-A to 5BNC cable. I tried a T connector BNC plug with both sync signals combined into one and the RGB lines going to the BKM-42HD's RGB inputs (with terminators where appropriate) and just got a rolling picture with the PC set to 1280x720/60Hz. The sync was set to external. I tried other resolutions like 640x480/60Hz and got varying degrees of success but at best the screen was a wavy mostly black/dark blue mess. Am I mistaken that I should be able to make this work? For reference it works beautifully with something like a PS3 (which I understand is not RGBHV).
