Neopets: The Darkest Faerie looks like your kind of game.

Didn't seem any worse than Kingdom Hearts from what little I played.

Looks a little Attack on Titan inspired to me. Just a tad, with the hair and big figure. All it needs is his boxing stance.

I just hope Treasure has enough faith in the series and Nintendo's hardware sales to go through with it.
I would love a new entry in the series but as far as I know, the Wii game didn't set the charts on fire and the current Nintendo home console doesn't sell like hotcakes so I fear we may not have another Sin & Punishment game in the future. :?

I don't think S&P2 was even played a lot by the majority of its buyers.

To be honest, the scoring system and its implementation can be off-putting to people who don't like long boss milking. I think that is one of the reasons S&P 2 was not played at a high level by many people. An other could be the fact that it was on the Wii and the target audience would be more likely to spend the majority of their gaming time on the 360 shoot'em ups.
I put more than 150 hours in the game and enjoyed it (despite the boss milking) but in the end, some stages felt too long for their own sake.

That said, it is still an excellent game that makes good use of the Wiimote and I am glad to have discovered the series through Smash Bros.

I have yet to see a proof that boss milikng scores more points that max multiplier + time bouns.

I saw a few videos of high-level play on Nico Nico Douga (such as this one) and the players milk the bosses. Not all bosses are worth it but many of them produce milkable enemies.
As for the multiplier and the time bonus, they still apply while milking. The value of the destroyed ennemies or projectiles are of course multiplied, and if you kill the boss at the last second you gain a special bonus (like in Border Down I think?) that is roughly equivalent to killing the boss 30 seconds before the timer runs out. This bonus balances out a bit the time lost during the milking.

I personally managed to increase my scores by discovering new milking spots as well.

There's a possibility I saw this link some time ago, but didn't deign to create account. Still, if there aren't many examples on YouTube, that would indicate not many folks played it extensively.
Not sure what the target audience was by the way.

You can still take a look at Eboshidori's videos on YT if you don't have a NND account.
But as you said, high-scores plays are indeed not very numerous.

Spike from Wrecking Crew
Mouser
Tatonga
Stanley the Bugman
Popeye
A unicycle from Uniracers
And Mother Brain should be the final Boss, and naturally I mean pimp-talking, Captain N-style Mother Brain.

I doubt it would happen, but it would be cool if Nintendo got the Popeye license back. Namco actually distributed a port of the arcade game to cell phones licensed from both King Features (I think. That's who owns Popeye, AFAIK) and Nintendo. Too bad Nintendo doesn't usually port their arcade games (probably due to the issues with the company that programmed DK, though they did make a nice Mario Bros from scratch for GBA), but the NES port is good and I like how the Sea Hag throws bouncing skulls in that version (something that wasn't in the arcade version). I wouldn't mind seeing Popeye on 3DS VC for on the go play.

Sad, really. Popeye has to be one of the most criminally underutilized properties in gaming.

Considering Nintendo had developed Popeye only a couple years prior, I wonder if some of the design elements for Super Mario Bros were lifted (purposely or subconsciously) from the former; mushrooms make Mario powerful... recurring fights against a primary nemesis... a female character who seems unconcerned at repeatedly being kidnapped and fought over.

Old Popeye cartoons hold up really well too. The gags are creative, the animation is high quality, and it possesses a timeless sense of cool.

Also, since Namco is involved, I am really hoping that Ace Combat is represented in some way. While a character is highly unlikely, I'd love to see an assist trophy that lets you call in an airstrike using jets from the series, or an Ace Combat stage, perhaps having the characters fighting on top of jets during combat or even on top of the Arkbird from AC5 or the SOLG satellite as it falls from Earth's orbit.

I read that Donkey Kong was originally planned to be a Popeye game. I like the cartoons quite a bit too, especially the earlier Fleischer ones. I also like the original comics quite a bit, though they are very different from the cartoon. Popeye is more rough around the edges and very punch happy (more so than in the cartoons), though I heard he cleans up a bit in the later Segar comics.

Speaking of lawsuits, I think PIXAR would still act weirdly over them reusing Uniracers nowadays...

She was voiced by Levi Stubbs from The Four Tops, the same voice as Audrey II in the Little Shop of Horrors movie based on the musical. "Feed Me, Samus. Feeeeeeed Me!"
