Resogun. Arcade mode, 'Experienced' (ie. 'normal') difficulty. Not the hardest 1CC, but a very fun game for pushing score (even though it can be wildly frustrating at times.

Hardly the most taxing of challenges, and therefore probably one of the least impressive first posts in this thread, but: Harmful Park 1CC all clear on easy! lol

Have to say that was on my first attempt as well having only just got the game. Will do a few more runs to familiarise myself with the levels before pushing the difficulty up :)

Do submit your scores over on the forum's Harmful Park high score thread! All experience and difficulty levels welcome! And there's nothing like submitting scores (aside from superplays and strategy threads/guides) to help you get better and push yourself.

And well done on the Gradius 2-ALL ACSeraph! That's a great one to have on the list.

Will do! Was gonna have another blast through when I got in from work tonight and I've been saving my scores on the memory card, so I'll see how badly I can humiliate myself, lol.

I cleared the second loop of Storm Caliber last night. But I was confused - I'd heard about a TLB at the end of the 2nd loop, but I just fought the last boss and it ended. Oh well, I got the 2-ALL. Wait, what does that say?

Image

I guess I got the BAD-ALL.

Fuck you too, bro. :|

(anyone know the TLB requirements?)

ESPGALUDA II /w Ageha.

Had almost given up on this game because the difficulty of the rest of the game vs the last boss felt so uneven, but decided to give it a try and got a clear on my 2nd credit. Got to the last boss with 4 lives left and made two stupid deaths however survived the attack where there is a safespot simply by dodging so that helped a lot. This was my main shmup goal of 2014 and already got in February so maybe I´ll take a pause on shmups for the remaining months  .

Actually clearing the game did not take that many hours of playtime as you would think. I have owned the XO version of the game for years but never played it seriously and hardly made past stage 3 or 4. That all changed when I got the PCB and had a change to play it with bigger screen on my cab vs untated lcd screen. I played it for few days around christmas few hours each day and at that time I almost beat the last boss. Then I just forgot the game and played it now and then till now. The stages are not that hard when you memorize when you need to use kakusei on which part etc. However that causes problems if there happens something unexpected and you have to use kakusei and then you face the hard part with less resources that you have planned to need which leads to dying most of the time. It is also good to know when you should use kakusei and when barrier as some of the boss attacks take forever to finish if you use kakusei, but with small tap on the barrier bomb the phase is over quickly. If you would use Asagi as your character the last attack of the last boss would be a peace of a cake if you can make it there, but the problem with that character is that it adds extra attacks to bosses so it can be actually harder on some parts and to be honest more boring as it changes the gameplay quite a lot, makes it more tedious I think. Lastly I think the PCB has more slowdown than the port of the game and I don´t know if the "bug" appers on the port but sometimes if you are on kakusei and and you run out of games the slowdown continues to be the same as if you still had gems left. The game is hard but managable.

I've come close a couple of times then just given up,although it seems like that on every game I play these days! Still, nice one! An ESP 2 clear is uncommon...

You should pick a game you are close to clearing and get stubborn with it. Refuse to lose.

I used to always hit the last boss and stop because of the difficulty jump, but it really doesn't take to much more work to clear. If the rest of the game goes well enough you might have enough resources to just push through even if the last boss goes poorly.

Plus, fighting last bosses in practice mode itself is very fun.

The way I beat these games is by getting to the final boss with enough resources to allow a handful of misses and still win.
So just getting to the boss might only be 50% of the work involved with a clear.

Certainly the case for me. The day I first get to a final boss is the day I know I'm halfway through learning what I need about the game up to that point (as far as clearing – and not scoring – is concerned. Because I usually need a healthy bomb and live stock to spam my way though!

I know Chempop's answer, but do you use practice modes/save states spadgy and Jonst?

I know that, with Futari, once I reached Larsa (and felt like I had no chance), I just spent about 2 hours killing her over and over, until I knew I could take her down with a reasonable amount of resources. All it took was one run making it to her and I got the clear, having never practiced anything in the game but the last boss.

Its the only way I can do it, my stress levels are too high when fighting a last boss in a real run to actually learn anything from the fight, so it tends to feel like banging my head against a wall.

I rarely do. I'd never criticise those that do as there's no reason to, but I feel I may as well use each credit to get more familiar with the whole game.

That said, I love Moss-developed shmups' boss rush modes, and that's kind of similar to save states and so on.

I rarely use practise modes as they don't reflect how I play in a full run.In practise,I'm usually more relaxed,so I can do whatever it is I have to do but a full run that's going well will make me more nervous the further I get, therefore,I make more mistakes! The only game I don't ever get nervous with is akai katana.

I think this is how most people feel. I certainly wasn't relaxed when I did get the clear, in fact I was shaking. Thats what makes learning from the fight so difficult, so I tend to make the same mistakes over and over.

If you practice, you get just a little confidence, at least in some patterns. And you know what patterns to not mess with and just bomb. It doesn't make it a cakewalk, but I think it does make a noticeable difference. A nice thing about being relaxed while doing something is that it seems to build muscle memory faster, so eventually you'll be dodging the attack subconsciously, which gives you some room to panic a little bit.

I understand if its not enjoyable for some to use practice modes though. I just know it can get frustrating getting so close to so many clears, with just those last bosses standing in the way, so I thought I'd share what has worked for me in this situation.

I appreciate your insight, like I've said in previous posts,I'm a really inconsistent player,At least half of my clears have been hard work! I can make it to the end of quite a few shmups though. The final part generally screw me up,I would rule the "I nearly did it" thread!

mushi arrange especially, alway at the TLB, always less than 10% health remaining, always fucked. doesnt help that the only time i play it is when i am drinking with friends, they like watching the drunk shmupping, they dont play shmups.

I hit a wall with the Crimson Clover TLB and Gigawing final boss. I might revisit those at some point, but I was replaying the same stuff a lot to get there.

I think the final boss that I got the most nervous with was DOJ BL. That probably took a couple weeks off my life, lol.
