OutZone is better, but I prefer FixEight for some odd reason.

Unfortunately yes, since there doesn't seem to be any way to access the NESiCA version other than actually being in Japan.
It seems like a very cool revision, and the new modes look awesome. If anyone feels like giving us some talking points with regard to the NESiCA release, we'd love to mention it in more detail. As it is though, what english info there is seems to be spread between several different posts in a couple threads, and I'm having trouble compiling things into a nice summary.

Overall changes:
-Graphics have been improved! Some details to background added, star items and special effects are way more flashy.
-Bullet colors adjusted to be more visible
-Enemies added! The empty moments (yeah there rarely are any) have been filled with new enemy types.
-Overall, difficulty has been set higher. Suicide bullets in stage 4, boss patterns filled with additional bullets, etc.
-The multiplier for locking on to enemies has been doubled. The maximum for max lock-on is now 12.8, whereas in the normal version it's 6.4.
-New stage 5 music
-New ship type III, very focused shot.
EDIT: Oh shit it's already on?
Simple mode has been replaced with new BOOST MODE
-Similiar to the old simple mode, but in the new boost mode you can activate break mode (but not double break)
-The break mode lasts as long as you don't bomb or get hit; yes, infinite break mode. However, being in it slowly ramps the rank higher and higher meaning faster bullets and suicide bullets. Once you get hit or bomb, it deactivates, and the rank goes back to (almost?) normal.
-Being in break mode longer and longer gives you more and more score from cash ins which happen based on time spent in break mode. It's quite straightforward if you watch that video.
-BOOST MODE TL;DR: Simple mode with rank-racking infinite break mode ability.
Original mode:
-Break mode(s) last shorter
Unlimited mode:
-Break mode(s) last shorter
New time trial mode:
-This is pretty weird. It's like a long-ass new stage. You have unlimited lives, but have to keep the timer rolling by scoring?
I might edit this post without mentioning, but feel free to fill in more info everyone!
EDIT: Oh shit the show is already on? Bummer

May be cool to have a plethora of Skype guests to share their "how I discovered and sparked an interest with shmups" stories, I always like those.

Re: STG Weekly #49: Crimzon Clover
Just played Crimson Clover here in Tokyo, I can say that the game is very different than the PC version.
First of all, the graphics here are HD, it's extremely beautiful to watch and to play. Stars items also looks different, the design but it also feel a lot more clear, a little bit like the Saidaioujou colors items. The extend system is also different, you don't get them with scores but with an amount of stars you collect during the stages, the first extend in Original mode was at 100.000 stars, so basically if you play "ok" you can get your first extend at stage 2 if not stage 3 !
Also there is no extend items at the end of stage but 3 items that moving around in circle (makes it difficult to grab the one you want), there is Energy refill, Score bonus and another one called Recover which I didn't get what it was.
Not to mention that there is Type Z but I have no idea where the hell you can choose it ! (at least on the cabs I played) but there is a Type 3, very fast but nothing powerful like PC Type Z. I also noticed that the breaking bar fills very slowly compared to PC, but once you are in Breaking mode, then the double break can comes faster than the PC version, so it's cool to score but once you are out of Breaking mode, it can get painful to recover a full bar.
The bomb is also around 25% instead of 50% of the bar, at least that can save your ass.
There is no Simple mode. But there is a time attack mode instead (I dunno how difficult it is)
That's it for my little report after few credits on some Vewlix cab, I can tell you that the game is REALLY cool in HD mode, and also while I found some pattern too flashy and difficult to read on the PC because of some weird choice of colors, it seems that they managed here to makes it a lots more reading friendly, not so brutal for your eyes (no crazy orange patterns over green background sort of things)
Fantastic game, this deserve to be released on 360
time to do a sign thing

Re: STG Weekly #49: Crimzon Clover
My idea for some episode:
Some long-ass shmup quiz.
You could have soundtracks, special effect sounds, and just plain sprites of enemy ships/player ships or anything you can imagine, and the viewers would have to try and guess/try to remember where the picture/sound shown is from. Then you provide a correct answer after a short while, with a brief explanation.
It would be extremely fun!
I would also be ready to assist arranging this
Episode 50 would be great to have this

Or some live runs and every time one of the players gets hit he (or she) has to drink a shot.

That would make for a great live Garegga run
Edit: Harmful Park would be an ok episode, I've got scoring runs of Normal and Score Attack and could even pull together some videos of the mini games if that would be needed to pad the episode. You talked briefly about it in the cute em up episode, but there's a good amount of gameplay depth to talk about (and three levels of hilarity that you never showed).

How about for the #50 episode going through the Top 25 Shmups of All Time-list? Showing footage and talking why each game is on the list/what makes them good.

I like the ideas all, thanks. If not for #50, good ideas for other eps.
This weekend is a break week, by the way. I'm sure people are still recovering from the hours of footage from the past 3 weeks.
