of the games that have been discussed here( FF VII, FF VIII, FF IX, Chrono Cross) which is the least linear? I've heard that Chrono Cross and FF VII are pretty open, and that FFIX is pretty linear until close to the end? Also, do any of these games have snow areas? I like snow areas in games.. 8)

No FF beats VI when it comes to snow... or anything else, for that matter ^_^

I'm going to say none of the above. FF:Tactics is what you are looking for in terms of open endedness and it was the best thing to ever happen to the FF series while it was on the playstation. IMO FFVII was overrated crap.

I always had the impression that FF TActics was linear, there is alot of open endedness? Is there alot of depth to character development? I've also been looking at Front Mission 3, i love mech games and it looks like it has tons of depth.

Whoops, should've checked before posting. I stand corrected. Say, are there any easy game breaking glitches to more easily beat the game?

Well, FFT is open based on the fact that you can go on proposition side quests whenever you want (until you finish them). That's about it to the open-endedness but they do offer nice diversions (though I'd call them time wasting since you don't actually do anything except move around a few times and come back, hoping you didn't have to battle).

FM3...what depth are you expecting? It's not really complicated or anything if that's what your asking. AP is just an energy-based system like in the Super Robot Wars games but more restrictive. There's plenty of equips and skills, but there are in many mecha games and SRPGs.

EDIT: to finish my question

No mecha game on the PS really has more depth. However, Civ II on the PS has more strategical options.

Probably the most game-breaking glitch is the Berserk Duplication trick (makes 255 copies of a weapon at once; useful for a nearly infinite supply of Excalibur-darts for Edge.)

A description of the glitch using the Avenger Sword is here. There's a way to do it with the Berserk spell as well, but it's trickier that way and I've forgotten the details. (And when it says to not have other characters do anything, note that parrying counts as doing something, so just put the controller down at that step.)
