Quick technical question

Post by Mischief Maker »

Is there a way to do those spoiler boxes or invisible text on this forum? Basically put up some text in a message that the reader must actively uncover?
Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.

An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

I don't think so, I've tried lot of codes, and they never worked.

Only good alternative I've found is tiny text for BIG SPOILERZ and sundry dark secrets

Unfortunately not. I think we're confined to just super tiny text. Those with excellent eyesight, beware!

Or those with rather bad eyesight who browse the site with increased font sizes. Or the eventual blind forum user who uses a screen reader.

Tiny text works just as fine. I use size 30 when I want to spoiler tag something.

Fun fact: if you use size 1, your message will be invisible. People will only see it if they quote the post. Do that to deliver super secret messages.

We don't cater kindly to them blind folks.

But truthfully, I can kinda read the small print stuff sometimes, which usually nips me in the beans and a small chunk of my life goes obsolete. The mind is too curious, and sometimes just having to squint your eyes isn't enough to draw your gaze elsewhere and move on. Highlighting it, though? That takes a conscience effort and a wee bit of mouse work. It's like having a mom slap you on the hands when you're watching some titties in an R film.

Code: Select all

No. That would be too convenient.
You could do this though.

#003952 matches the background a little better

#004263 if your post happens to land on a light stripe instead

If this were DOS or a more just piece of software, you'd be able to specify text background color as well for traditional redactions.

Probably for the best. We'd just abuse it SCP-style.

So I'm sitting there with my invisible friend chilling out on Battlefield, when I glance at the forum.

Me: hey Bob, there's this kind of crazy looking guy with a hat, he's asking about spoiler tags.
Bob: ...
Me: what's that? You say I'd better give that man what he wants?
Bob: ...
Me: yeah, the hat is kinda scary.

I'll put them in next week, just bashed a mod into the test forum and it works fine but I'm pretty busy this weekend and want to do it properly.

In the past I've tried changing colors to something close to the background color. Something like this (highlight to read):

This is spoiler text

That is done by using the following tag:

Code: Select all

This is spoiler text
I believe PBPbb does have plugins that allow a
Spoiler
tag to be used, but I don't think one is installed here.

Spoiler
It's really weird to have something new implemented in the forum. I kind of like shmups because it is so backward and ancient that it doesn't have these newfangled thingies. I can see this being useful though, people keep ruining films and RPG's in various threads - no more!

Spoiler
They're already being abused; great. This is how good 75%+ of spoiler tag use is - just making people click to see stuff you wanted them to see anyway. Let's not do this.

Already tried that one, telltale /spoiler tag string of failure. Some things were just too obvious to let slip through, so kudos to the coders for catching that one 8)
