How do you enable 8-way movement in MAME?
I have a gamepad with an 8-way d-pad but it behaves like a 4-way d-pad for MAME games. Can anybody help me out?

Not sure I have something for you right away but try browsing to Input (General) -> Player 1 Controls and then setting the diagonals from there.
Interestingly, I tried this with my 360 controller, which has a POV Hat for the d-pad (as do all 360 controllers), and MAME Plus 64 (at least) didn't recognize the POV Hat. But it sounds like the d-pad, or POV Hat, is actually recognizes on yours. If you have trouble getting the inputs in, then perhaps you could try some CFG file editing as suggested by this thread: http://forums.shoryuken.com/discussion/ ... tick-on-pc

I have never had to explicitly set diagonals for any of my controllers in MAME, I just set up-down-left-right and then the diagonals are just combos of those.
Here's something to check -- assuming you're using a Windows machine, when you open the controller properties in Control Panel, does it register diagonals there?

Run -> "joy.cpl" to check that.
Without knowing what controller we are talking about, it's hard to know what to look for. I'm guessing the problem isn't a POV Hat issue (as covered here) because the regular directions are working. It sounds like a rollover issue...but I've never heard of rollover problems on a controller.
