You can unlock them in different ways. Look on your missions, some of them you can figure out without knowing Japanese. One of them near the bottom is X/10, it's 10 gold medals. Another one changes every 100 stages you play, every 100 you unlock a gold ball which gives you a R and also a gold medal. I think another was given as a prize for beating a level end boss. The way most people you see on there got them though, is by paying for them, same for SSR. I'm about to the point of breaking down and buying some SSR's because I don't think I can advance anymore without it. I've tried every color combo imaginable and my robos are maxed and still can't beat the boss level. I'm on Rank 27.

The difficulty starts to let off a little bit in the high 20s. Since I last posted it has let me unlock lots of SR characters and you can combine them into every team you use and just annihilate levels regardless of their color. The purple guy in particular, even only at level 27 is the most powerful robo in my whole arsenal. I'm on Rank 29 now.

been trying to get this running...

when I start it up, I hot the red button to start an account, but in subsequent openings it says "now connecting..." then a blue dialog box pops up with some text and an orange X in the corner, no other buttons. when that's pressed, a different dialog box, this time with an orange button to press inside the window, pops up...clicking that takes me to the app store and does nothing else. my iphone doesn't have much ram so doing that automatically quits donpaccin. there doesn't seem to be any other way around it, is anyone else encountering this?

The only time I've run into anything like that is when my home wifi was acting up and switching the settings to 3G fixed it, but if it's older than an iphone4 I don't know if anyone here has tested it on something that old.

Mine is a 4s so it's not that. I would disable wifi if it's on wifi and if that doesn't work try restarting your phone. I've gotten it "unstuck" from things like that by restarting or loading up other apps to clear the ram and force the game to restart instead of carrying you back into a previous session.

Edit - actually if you installed it a while back and haven't played it for a while, you have to log back into your Japan account and run an update. That's probably what it is. Unless you just installed it today.

Can't speak Japanese but figured out i should have a look for an app update.
Installed the don paccin update and it did work again...

It has to just be some sort of update, I can't see it ever going back to a start over point now that people have put in so much time and money.

Also, Cave gets major kudos from me for not giving a crap whether or not my device is rooted. After seeing both Square Enix AND GungHoOnline (Puzzles & Dragons)'s apps refuse to start, it's quite a nice thing to see a company not demonize people that root.

Well, everything has changed. It doesn't even resemble its former self. It doesn't even feel like it makes sense that I am where I'm at in the levels because if I had been playing the Burst version from the beginning everything would have been different. Overall it's an improvement but it's way harder now and the end stage of levels are just complete madhouses. They probably should have released this as a separate game but whatever.

It's a frustrating son of a bitch now though, at least on the rank I'm at. The bosses even on normal stages have some sort of death timer and when it ticks to zero they move down right in front of your face so your shots go nowhere and send bullet spreads that are nearly impossible to dodge sometimes. The game is at least 20X harder now.

They must have balanced it by making the earlier ranks easier and the later ranks harder. I'm on rank 46.

So I somehow managed to get this attached to my Google account (if I go into the Play Store page it now gives the open/uninstall option, on the web it no longer whines about "not available in your country")
Not entirely sure how I pulled it off, but it is doable. Testing to see if I can reinstall it if I uninstall or switch devices.

edit: and yes I can. Guess Google only cares where you are for the initial "purchase" of an app/movie/music, even if it's free. It does *not* show up under my installed apps though, I have to go over into the "all" tab if/when an update comes out.

But instead of pasting the link there I did the Chrome extension method, which as far as I can see tells Google "This user is downloading this app to their device," which apparently set the flag for me having "purchased" it. In theory it could work for any free app that's region-blocked. (if someone has one they know of, I'd be glad to test this theory)

last edit: lol Cave "this app is compatible with all of your devices." Yeah, I'd love to see my OG Evo 4G run this, if only to laugh at the horrific lag.

Any other ideas on getting this working on a Verizon Android device? I was able to download the .apk using that link a while back. I was running a custom ROM back then, and the game installed and played just fine. Now I'm running a stock ROM, and the game will still install, but when I run it, it eventually takes me to the Google Play app and tells me it's not available in my country.

I tried the Chrome extension method you posted. I was able to make that method work, but it ultimately takes me to the same place above (not available in my country). I tried uninstalling and reinstalling after using the Chrome method too.
