Ikaruga, first boss question (location test)

Post by mice »

I've been meaning to ask this for a while (try 4 years...) but as soon as I login to the forum, I forget.

On the first location testing of Ikaruga, someone recorded a vidoe of it, where the player took down the first boss.
When most of the explosions had settled, you saw the boss fly away, but having changed color to black.
I thought this was very cool, and that one would probably face him later on.
But on the DC version, none of this happens. Was that something left in the arcade and removed from the DC ver or did they remove it in the final arcade as well?

Anyone know what I'm on about?

Cheers!

That was strictly on the Loke Test version. It was removed in the final NAOMI release (the boss completely explodes when defeated).

wow, that sounds mighty cool. Shame they removed it.
...and suddenly, a very freaky wormhole opened, and 4 3-foot tall market analysts fell out...

A video of this was posted at hameko a while ago. It might still be up there.

Just checked and it was video 1819. Its probably been bumped off by now.

I could make a yousendit link or something.

Ikaruga is full of great ideas so that this one didn't make it, is ok with me. And that idea wasn't exactly original anyway. But cool none the less.

Thanks!

Perhaps the rising "spirit" was too literal, or would be inconsistent with some of the later (more mechanical) bosses. Wasn't the second level part of the location test too? I wonder if there were any differences with that boss...

i thought it was because the guy didnt defeat the boss in time.

ign dreamcast might have a video of it. they had videos of it when it was first shown at jamma way back, but im not sure if they had the boss footage.
