I'm sorry, but this just has to be done.
WARRIORS! COME OUT AND PLAY-AY!!1
...yeah. Either way, this game is supposed to be pretty good. I've heard it's more offensive than the GTA games though; is this true? I saw a dad denying his son this game, so...yeah.

Ajax's introduction in the game is him about to rape a woman and then he's one of the main good guys so I'd say yeah.
There's a whole lot of wonderful skull crunching, bludgeoning people until they vomit, knocking someone on their back and then getting down and kneeing them in the head until they die, etc.
The sound plays a big part of it, all the hit sound effects and smashes and crunching of bones along the voice acting, it's crazy.

Eh, I don't know about that. Sure, you can mug women and smash their faces into brick walls and beat people up when they try to call the cops on you, but the violence isn't nearly as over the top and senseless as GTA. It's not like you can have sex with hookers or murder cops with rocket launchers or anything.Icecap Veiwin wrote:I'm sorry, but this just has to be done.

I dunno
I always thought the violence in GTA was fairly comical.
I mean you snipe some guy's head off and he just stumbles around a bit with blood gushing like a fountain. It honestly looks silly and not at all violent.
On the other hand I was playing Beatdown..a rather mediocre 3D beatemup/RPG by Capcom and that game features a full bruising/bleeding system. After thrashing some guy heavily you'll see black eyes, numerous cuts, etc. I thought that was a lot more effective than some policeman falling over after you whack him over the head with a purple dildo.
Also from the GTA games I got a more detached view of the violence in the game. A lot of the people you maim and kill you can barely see their faces. Obviously part of this is due to the technical limitations but the way everyone acts and reacts to your violent antics it never comes off as completely serious. The average GTA citizen is one of many stereotypes anyway, taken from a variety of pop culture/movie references, so there's no real connection to anyone.
Despite being based on a movie, The Warriors happens to feature graphics that better represent the people you deal with. Also with the very nature of the gameplay you can expect to see people getting punched, kicked, and having their various bones snapped with disturbing realism.
This is probably not a good comparison. But this reminds me of Saving Private Ryan. Early on in the movie during the D-Day sequence you see a soldier take a shot to the head. Luckily his helmet was on and it deflected the bullet. However he took the helmet off with this "wow" look on his face and he promptly recieved another shot in the same place.
Towards the end of the movie however a jewish soldier is slowly stabbed to death by a nazi whom he and his comrades spared the life of.
In GTA and in that guy getting a bullet in his head the sequence came off with a rather disturbing humor, but in the knifing scene it just felt brutally violent and awful.
Geh nevermind I can't make any sense of what I wrote. Ignore this please.
I haven't gotten The Warriors yet mainly due to my huge backlog(DQ8, Shadow Hearts 2, and an FF8 replay of all things) but it's definitely on my list.

Actually, Pepsiman, I agree completely with you.
I never played GTA San Andreas, but I played a lot of VIce City, and I always thought the violence to be like the violence in a film like Kill BIll or "Bride of Chuck"... everything is so absurd and over the top that its hard to take it seriously.
Medal of Honour, in the other hand (a random example) always felt more violent to me... when you shoot someone, and he is in the ground hurt, you go there and finish him off with a headshot... THIS is violent..

I might at least be able to see where you're coming from with this comment...PepsimanVsJoe wrote:I mean you snipe some guy's head off and he just stumbles around a bit with blood gushing like a fountain. It honestly looks silly...
...but might take issue with this part, heh heh. Just because something isn't entirely serious or realistic doesn't mean it's automatically not violent. A different "grade" of violence, perhaps, but still violence....and not at all violent.
Yeah, it's silly, over the top violence, not any worse than an Itchy and Scratchy episode, really. Completely unrealistic. I guess that's why some may consider The Warriors more violent. It's a much more realistic depiction of violence.Shatterhand wrote:Actually, Pepsiman, I agree completely with you.

I played all the way through the Warriors the other day for the PS2,(also completed the Xbox version) and I have to say that its cool, but I probably won't be playing it again anytime soon. Its one of those type games...meaning its cool and all, but you CAN overdose on it.
You can't just pick it up and play it like a shmup, as the story just keeps going and encourages you to play a few more areas.
Anyway, I also unlocked everything except for some characters for "Rumble" mode.
The arcade game is sorta lame though too. Pretty much basic Double Dragon influenced repetition.
Although, Double Dragon is a FAR superb game anyday! Still, its a cool unlockable.
