old games ala binding of isaac

Post by Aguraki »

ok so I loved BoI and noticed a good trend these days due to the popularity of the game (our darker purposes in mind which I wanna play too).

now my question is,are there old games that would have that kinda touch, looking for 8 bits and 16bits games mainly.
also what games would u say have inspired BoI the most (on the fly Id say rogue meets zelda).
I hope some people will know what I mean (if u haven´t played BoI it might sound weird).

all advices welcome Id love to play or rediscover some games.

I think Shoot First is exactly what you're looking for. Had a lot of fun with this game some years ago.

This looks really fun. Why haven't I heard of this before? Holy shit, it's REALLY fun. damn you ruldra now i'll be up all night playing this :V There's an online highscore table it seems, but the top listings are clearly hacked scores.

I'd personally recommend Sideline (you can thank Ghegs for this). It's got some very pretty spritework, a bit reminiscent of R-Type I guess.

Super Crate Box is also a lot of fun. It's free, simple, and pretty fun, though the disc launcher gets a bit frustrating when you pick it up. They even made a C64 version just for kicks, so it's super oldschool.

Oh hey, it's been years since I saw anything about Shoot First. I wonder if they've fixed up some of the bugs it used to have. The version number looks familiar though.

What kind of bugs? What am I looking out for to avoid?

Hard to say, since according to our old thread on the subject, the known bugs were reported / turned out not to be bugs after all. But you can't go wrong having a look through that topic to see issues & some solutions.
