The two most notable recently are:
Super Stardust HD (vita/ps3)
Nano Assault (3ds/WiiU)
I found them Mentioned, but no full scale discussion.
What shmups am I missing?
What do they do right?
How do they change the formula?
Forgive me if my impressions are brief (I like Nano Assault the most), but
Where do these games situate themselves in the shmup corpus?
Note: radial gravity = super Mario galaxy style gravity I.e. Rotating around a planet.

I don't know the 2nd one, but why say Super Stardust HD is a gravity shmup?
Stardust HD is pure and simple an arena shooter.
I always thought of a gravity shmup as something like Gravitar, Solar Jetman, Subterrania, Gravity Crash...

Stardust (I love the series right back to the Amiga days) is certainly set on a complete globe's surface, but I can only remember it being an aesthetic thing. I'm sure gravity and such don't impact the gameplay at all (although arguably, the way the globe brings enemies looping around back into sight/range is a little different from an arena shooter where stuff popping off one side immediately appears on the other. Subterrania is a great game.
Don't forget good old Thrust too - plenty of versions of that.....there's even an excellent homebrew 2600 port of it - you would not believe how good a job has been made of it.
