This guy probably shows up around level 2 as a mid-boss. Different variations appear with a shield (that you can ram) or other upgrades. Later in the game, they may show up in groups as regular enemies.

I'd like to have a crowd of nobles sitting on top of the "crown tower" during the fight. They would only be a handful of pixels each (think Risk of Rain). I am considering the little things on the side of the head to be escape pods that they would jump in halfway through the fight. Unfortunately the empire doesn't believe in abandoning a fight so the ship's hand would point forward and direct those pods at your ship. These would be fast attacks with devastating explosions so you would actually want to destroy the pods before they wanted to escape. I think it could present a cool moral choice of preventing their escape to save yourself. Either way, they're probably going to die...

It would be cool if that giant mid boss walked on the ground beneath him rather than flying. But that might already be your plan?

It would make sense to have an army of mechs beneath him. It could really make for a cool atmosphere.
