Hi guys!
I was wondering, how the xbox 360 looks on a 15khz arcade monitor, without special scalers in between.
Just a DIY cable, that connects the video lines straight to the jamma edge.
Or connected via viletims scart arcade adapter.
How does it look?
How is the picture quality?
Mind posting screenshots?
I am very sure, a lot people on here are doing something like that. Connecting a console without scaller, just hacked up RGB/Scart.
Do your eyes hurt after some playtime?
Do you adapt to the interlacing, if it is 480i? Everythign interlaced all the time?
How does it compare to a scaler, did you start using one?
Just curious, how viable this option is,
thanks in advance,
ninn

The static menus flicker a bit, but gameplay looks rather spiffy. It's interlaced, so no proper scanlines. I did a comparison shot of my two cabinets running the same game in 24kHz and 15kHz:

As you can see, the difference is hard to tell from a picture.

If you can run at both 15KHz and 24KHz you must have a scan converter in between, no?

... I don't think many people do this...
It's interlaced, the flicker is bearable for some but unbearable for me - awful imho - it'll probably destroy whatever eyesight you have left too. It's just the same as plugging in any interlaced game and sitting right up to a crt tv...
Just buy a cheap extron rgb interface - it's not an expensive scaler

Don't know why that didn't occur to me earlier for my 360 setup. The Extron will strip the offset from the 480i signal and output a steady 240p if I'm not mistaken. Would be a good solution for setting up my 360 to play on the 19" arcade monitor I have (slowly planning out a Shmup cab for Jamma/360).gray117 wrote:Just buy a cheap extron rgb interface - it's not an expensive scaler

Just keep in mind that setting up an extron is a bit of a b*tch. It highly depends on the model though, so be sure to make some thorough research through the hardware section before buying one.Crafty+Mech wrote:Don't know why that didn't occur to me earlier for my 360 setup. One the other hand an emotia is pretty much plug an play. And gives you true 240p.

An RGB unit does not provide a proper 240p image. Flicker, whilst greatly reduced over 480i, is still aparant.
If you want a proper 240p signal you'll have to use a scan convertor.
