Taito to release Nanostray in Japan

Post by CIT »

Nanostray will be released under the name "Danshaku" (<- which is some play on the words "bullet" and "baron") in Japan by Taito on 26 January 06.

I wonder how the slightly gimmicky Eurogameplay will go down with Japanese audience. Still I'm happy for Shin'En that they made it East, obviously being such J-Shmup admirers themselves. Plus, they're from the same town as me, so I gotta support the homeboys, right.

BTW, are Taito releasing shmups like maniacs or what!? Where would the genre be today if not for Taito?

Man I hope it causes some Japanese developers to put some more shmups on the DS. It would be great to have some more next to Nanostray.

Yeah, what happened to them anyway? Did they go bust or something?

Good thing I already sold my copy to Trader in Akihabara a while ago. Really though, most used game stores in Akihabara already have multiple copies of Nanostray, although this will make the game much more widely available throughout Japan.

Good call. I'm gonna go sell my copy this weekend.

1978...Space Invaders. by Taito.

They're not new to the field.

I think he was talking about Arika.
Feedback will set you free.

:)

First shmup ever I guess in the classic sense (not looking at things like Space War! and such).

You could make a case for SNK's 1979 Ozma Wars being the first "real" shmup I guess since it has a scrolling background, bosses and such. Very basic. It lacks the barricades and other cool things in Space Invaders but brings some cool things of its own to the table.

Also the mothership that refuels you every couple of stages is an EXACT profile silhouette of the Yamato. SNK's war game obsession started before they even made a war game.

Yeah, I was talking about Arika, sorry, I kind of quoted the wrong line there. So what happened to them? Why no more excellent Cave ports from them?

Space Invaders? What's that? Never heard of it so it must be unimportant...

But seriously, considering the trickle of shooter ports from Taito between 98 and 02 (G Darius, Raycrisis, the usual Space Invaders rehash) they're releasing shooters like banshees now.
