when people eat with their mouths open or "smack". it is most certainly the most irritating and rage inducing thing i've ever experienced. i've abandoned girls/friends jsut because of this. my current gf's kids do this and i can't even eat with them. i'm getting pissed just thinking about it.

I've wanted to murder my friends over this on occasion. It's a good thing the only time I ever eat with them is in crowded and loud places anyway, so I never have to hear their savage, uncivilized ways too often.

Agreed with the above posts.
How hard is it to eat in a civilized manner?

Sweaty feet in the cold! My job doesn't have heating or A/C, and currently it's a nice, brisk 6 degrees and windy as all hell. My feet sweat like mad, then promptly freeze, leaving me immobilized and in constant pain. The agony! Four pairs of socks a day keep the freezing away.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go wipe the filfth off... then prepare a response video, because I can't let this travesty stand.
Speaking of Nostalgia Critic, how Blip's video player sucks; it ALWAYS sends you back to the beginning of the video the first time you click to a certain point, and it just doesn't send you to your selected point correctly at all.

Getting audited at work, running around fulfilling auditors' requests and taking customers at once, and watching the assistant manager noisily excuse herself to go get coffee and bagels (and thus get to wait on line for them while the rest of us do all the work). And then hear later on about how important the coffee and bagels were in keeping the atmosphere relaxed on such a hectic day.

I could seriously just walk up to some random supervisor someplace and strangle him/her just for being who he/she is on days like this.

PRINTER INK
PRINTER INK EVERYWHERE

...but at least HP makes printers that are possible to disassemble! Once I got the scanner attachment completely disassembled, though, I was like "fuck it" and just ran water. Ain't nothing down there water's going to hurt. Ran water...ran water...and ran more water. Yeah, that super-concentrated muck (coagulated ink that sprayed all over the insides, and some of it mixed with dust) will brew more colorful liquid basically forever. You gotta scrub it off. Also take out the sponges in the bottom under the print head rest position, which will be hopelessly covered with ink, which you won't possibly remove completely. Much more difficult than disassembling your standard Fancy PC or video game console, but not impossible by any stretch. Didn't break a thing, and I disassembled basically everything (up to the printer portion, where I didn't have to, and I didn't want to invite belt alignment hell, even if it's probably not an issue I don't want to invite it). Lotsa fun with ribbon cables, the usual.

Prize: Hands like I've been in the coal mine swinging a pick all day, too! But fuck that, I beat the plastic puzzle.

It's surprising how far through the printer that ink can go.

Only real issue I'm expecting to deal with is finding some oil for the travel ribbon, which probably was the cause of the "chunk-chunk-chunk" on startup. Was totally dry. Still runs fine though!

Fuck HP and their shitty cheap printers, laptops and their support. If yours works it's clearly one of their more expensive variants where they bothered to make some effort: I get nothing but bad feedback for 99% of their stuff where I work.

It's a Printsmart 2575 (in 2007, some British tech site reviewed it and the cost at that time was 60 pounds), and I'm surprised it still does anything after never being serviced. There's really no wear and tear inside, even along the little guide ribbon. There's just a kind of purple haze on some parts which doesn't come out, but ink washed off most of the plastic surfaces very nicely. The design is pretty obnoxious but still there's some logic about how it comes together / apart.

For the moment, a Photosmart 1610 (which is basically identical, as far as I can tell) is filling in. After the 2575 goes back into service, I might go after the 1610 next so that there's a perfectly working backup. This is a lot of work to do just to rescue a shit old printer, but lot of it is unnecessary on my part.

I have fond memories of fooling around with Compaq's cheapo desktop PCs, and HP's recent slim PC designs seem to be carrying the torch for design quirks. I would put most of them down to "interesting," not "mind-bending and irritating," although I am not a fan of the underpowered parts in many of them.

Things like using ribbon cables and modular rails in unexpected / advant-garde ways, and also the general creativity of the plastic parts. The motherboards are also generally interesting one-offs, sometimes by major manufacturers (the previous machine had an exclusive Asus motherboard that wasn't sold outside the particular machine it was in). Yeah, that's definitely "interesting" in a relative sense.

Compaqs were good until they went for the cheap consumer route, by which they started cutting too many corners in design things. That was about the turn of the millenium as I recall second-hand from a former HP technician I met while at work.

We had an old black Compaq and that hunk of metal kept going until I filled its hard drive full, which being the little kid I was and with the not-IT-competent mother basically killed it too soon. Newer Compaqs I don't trust: prior work experience at an IT shop showed me Harvey Norman selling a lot of $400AU cheap laptops that broke down as early as two weeks out-of-the-box, my friend's "new" Compaq tower can't run fullspeed the same apps my 17-year-old legacy PC can, and the old Deskpro I had was a pain to get spare parts for thanks to its use of laptop hardware in a desktop machine. Stupid design choices.

Now I realise this sounds quite overly negative, but in all fairness my Deskpro did last a while before detonating completely, and I have heard of some of the newer Compaq laptops lasting 4 years. It just seems to me that there's a lot more bad design choices and faulty product lines than in any other brand, and trying to fix trivial things like replacing a CD drive or popped PSU seemed a lot more trouble than it should.

My only hard drive failures ever were in pre-millennium (and possibly post) Compaqs. I had a 10GB-ish drive in one from '99 or so go bad - maybe that's just the beginning of the new badness. On the plus side, it got a 20GB replacement drive (after the computer was replaced, though). I definitely don't miss hard drives from that era. On the plus side, I've got a nearly ten-year-old drive still working fine (though it's not currently hooked into a machine, but ready to be). I do recall other people talking about the "late" Compaq being bad - they definitely were in full commodity PC mode for consumer machines at that time. Still they released quite a bit of stuff that could work longtime. Laptops I'm not so sure about. There's no reason a laptop shouldn't work (nearly) indefinitely, IMO.

Speaking of feet, I think the blood circulation to my feet is low or something, because some of my toes will end up going numb for no real reason.

Tracking numbers that don't actually seem to track the package. Especially since apparently USPS uses the word "tracking" now when they used to use "delivery confirmation" [eg, the former used to only mean their service which kept proper tabs on the package, the latter is just "we sent it" and "you got it", and nothing in the middle needs to exist].
Usually an issue with Priority Mail sent things. They'll go dead for a bit and then pop up out of nowhere. As said before, tracking isn't guaranteed for them, but it's still annoying.

Hell, I've been waiting for my Vita for a while [ordered on the 17th], last I heard of it was on the 22nd ["out for delivery" in Texas, but I'm in Florida].
Sure, I should only get worried after the 29th [since that's the date after which Amazon will let me contact the seller with the "where's my stuff" option], but all of my other things have arrived -- game, memory card, PSP [since I'm probably not going to hack my Vita until it's PSP easy, if ever].

At least this is probably just a known glitch... but I kind of want my stuff. :P

PSP build quality. The one I just recently got already has a stuck right button [and I was doing so well playing Wipeout, my left turn suddenly veered right -- it had happened a few times earlier while I was playing Outrun 2019, but I thought that was an emulation error or something, this time it never let go]. If I replace this one, I'll be on my fourth PSP.

Bleh.

aaaaa
and now it is just not coming up at all -- blackscreen and power light on for 20 seconds or so
What the hell possessed this thing? It was fine a few hours ago! No sudden impacts of any sort either!

I have a different problem with the PSP, specifically the 1000 model: The D-pad seems to have an allergy to diagonal presses. Playing Gradius Collection was a pain because of it.

I don't udnerstand why the 1000 is sought after by many people; maybe it has to do with hacking a PSP? I've never hacked mine (although I probably should because I want to play Danganronpa and I don't have a Vita for the official NA release.)

Oddly specific, but when people make a sex pun (and maybe other puns) and someone exaggeratedly says it again like they're just making the pun (despite the fact the pun has already been said), and what has been said before was just set up for it.
