What are the BEST NES to Famicom conveters 72-pin to 60-pin?

Post by dave4shmups »

For the Famicom AV. The one I have now is this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Adaptor-Convert ... 33885c5825

The problem is that some of the black stuff at the top is starting to chip off. I got on www.stoneagegamer.com, and while their adapter looks a lot more well-built, it says that it may have issues on the Famicom AV: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Adaptor-Convert ... 33885c5825 And I've been told that it is really crappy.

There's a list of converters here: http://famicomworld.com/system/converters/ But I can't find any of these on Ebay. And I don't know of any Japanese game stores that sell them.

I have the one from stoneage and it works fine on my Famicom Titler. That is all.

:?: Is that the original Famicom, or the Famicom AV that you have?

No, I just forgot what the Titler was. Sue me. At any rate, it's irrelevant to my original question, because I don't have a Famicom Titler. I have a Famicom AV console, and I don't know if the stone age gamer converter would work as well with it.

I'd venture cart slot on the Titler and AV Famicom are pretty similar.

That's what I would think, but then check out this warning for the stone age gamer converter, on this webpage: http://www.stoneagegamer.com/nes-to-fam ... 0-pin.html

That's worrisome, but it's also confusing-the Titler is a Sharp product, like the Twin Famicom that they warn against using this with.

I wonder why it could have problems? I have an adapter that I picked up probably around 10 years ago at this point that I think has worked fine with any game I've tried on my AV Famicom, though admittedly I play more Famicom games than NES games. You have to put the NES game on the adapter backwards though, if memory serves. I can't seem to find it now, but it is encased in gray plastic with a black cart connector on top and looks like a chopped Famicom cart. I THINK it might be this one actually:

Thanks for the image! :D I just sent an email to Stone Age Gamer asking why their adapter would have problems, given that kamiboy (I didn't mention his username) has a Sharp Famicom Titler that it works fine with, and given that the Titler and the Famicom AV probably have identical cartridge slots.

Here's the email reply I got back from Stone Age Gamer: "The only reason that disclaimer is because we were getting quite a few returns on those systems. It doesn’t mean that it won’t work for them. Some people have told me they worked fine for those systems. The issue, we believe, is the PCB is slightly thinner than a normal Famicom cart."

I think the issue is that it goes in too far to the av famicom. The one stone age gamer sells was made for the one of the clone systems (yobo i think). I have heard you can get it to work if you dont push it down the whole way.

I bought this one and it works well:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NES-US-Nintendo ... 1079178442

They say they will send either a grey or black one. They sent me the black one last year.

OK, thanks for the advice and the ebay link! :D I've seen that one on ebay before, but I didn't know anything about the quality of it-it's not even listed on the Famicom World site. I just bought one on ebay, and it's set to arrive by February 6th! :D

There are a lot of them not listed on famicom world. They seem to have only a small sample of what's available.

I got it in the mail today, and it works perfectly! And it has plenty of plastic around the pins, unlike that cheapo one that I also have.
