Cheap Aracde Stick For PC (MAME)
Can any recommend a cheap (below £45) Arcade Stick for PC. Im want it for messing around in MAME, not after anything expensive so no need for the best components etc just a solid joystick at a cheap price really.
Are the Wii Arcade Sticks easy to mod over to USB, as these seem to go for a reasonable price on eBay??

Yes. Buy yourself a Zero Delay Encoder for it: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Zero-Delay- ... 27d0b6e255lettuce wrote:Are the Wii Arcade Sticks easy to mod over to USB, as these seem to go for a reasonable price on eBay??

^^Mine. I used another version of the Zero Delay PCB though with added PS2 support.

It is. I think it's great. Easy to mod, nice build. If you find it too light, you can weigh it down by putting heavy stuff inside, as there's room inside. Like a bag of sand, taped up rolls of washers. I put an LS-32-01 in mine, but the stock parts ain't too bad.lettuce wrote:Is that a Wii Arcade Stick you have there emphatic?....whats you views on it?

Re: Cheap Aracde Stick For PC (MAME)
The supplied wire harness is for Japanese parts. Notice the difference in the blades coming from the microswitches:

You want the SANWA size unless you plan on installing IL/HAPP buttons in your stick. If you have a chance to communicate with the seller, you'll want a 5-pin cable for your joystick as well, but IIRC, that's the standard one. I have the revised model of the Zero Delay, I wonder why there's no sellers on eBay at the moment...

Damn, didn't know that, noticed this in the description....emphatic wrote:You want the SANWA size unless you plan on installing IL/HAPP buttons in your stick. The Zero Delay also has these additional features for those that wish to utilize them:
Hat switch for secondary joystick, POV controls, or console style gaming controls
Autofire option
Rapidfire option
5 pin port for Japanese joystick ports
Attention:This product is 2 pin port for Happ type Joystick prots,Not 5 pin Japanese type ports! The follow picture will show you the difference of these two.
But says it supports 5 pin port for jpn sticks, looking at the pcb I can just make a harness up for the 5 pin stick

Yeah, the version I got has a 5-pin connector. Did you try contacting the seller and see if they can get the version with red connectors (like in my picture)?

Look at the prices he has sold them for, which you do by clicking on where it says "12 sold". Then harass him to sell you one for the same price.
No modding required, cheap, plug and play Windows/Linux for MAME.

I've picked up a few Japanese ones I'm waiting to have shipped for exactly the same reason - a solid cheap joystick for MAME.
I'm currently using some Hori Fighting Commander Pro 3 pads which are absolutely brilliant for MAME, but I'm finding shmups a bit weird to play on them since I normally only play on a cab. Hence the sticks purchase. The size, compatibility and price are what I've got them for.

Re: Cheap Aracde Stick For PC (MAME)
Bought one for my 360 on the basis that if the stock parts were horrendous, I've at least got a cheapish shell to work with. The electronics look fairly naff though, so it'd probably be a PS360+ job. Buttons soldered directly to the PCB... even if you switch the parts out it looks like it might die on you. Still, it's much cheaper to build a custom job than it is buy a great pre-built one.lettuce wrote:Cool, on a side not what the, XBOX 360 HORI EX2 FIGHTING STICK like??
Having said that, I've got on okay with the stock parts so am in no rush as long as it doesn't break. The stick isn't as tight as I'd like but I've gotten used to it. Certainly better stock stick than the £40 Mayflash PC/PS2/PS3 jobby, which is loud and has a gigantic wobbly deadzone. I've got a custom Saturn stick that I use with a PC adapter for MAME though.
