Here's some of my vintage tv dealer lightup signs.
These are from the late 1970's

Nifty. But what the hell does that Quasar slogan mean? Is that Engrish?

Through the looking-glass and the wardrobe, there's Quasar. Like the Sanyo and Philco signs though. Quasar...I see their old shit all the time, can't take them seriously even if they have a nice sign.

I didn't understand it either, so I looked it up. It's English, alright: "These televisions were well known for containing all serviceable parts in a drawer beneath the television's cabinet." (wiki)

That's just an American colloquialism (we do have a penchant for being difficult to understand sometimes, but the explanation makes this one crystal clear IMO). "The works" here means something like "clockworks."

Pretty neat stuff.

If the Quasar sign read "The Works In A Drawer", I'd have immediately understood what it meant. The "Works In A Drawer" sounds like you could fit it into a drawer or something. Quote positioning is important.

I walked into an old stereo shop thates been open since the later 1970's and there were 4 signs ontop of the shelf covered in dust.
I asked the guy if he would sell and he said he had to ask the 80 year old chinese owner.
1 month later, I went back and I bought them. He kept the big PANASONIC Sign though.
Whenever I see something I like, I always ask if it's for sale. You never know.
