Very interesting. I'll have to give it a go next time I get the Xevious impulse.Mortificator wrote:I used to feel that way too. Xevious was one of the first shooters I ever played, after all. I do have all the games in the series and even a 3D/G PCB, so I'm sure I'll end up getting this as well.

Yep. I don't understand why Namco would keep an online game like this as exclusive to one particular console, though. I mean, it's not like a game expansion pack or a full retail release. It would be nice for XBLA, just as Pac-Man Championship Edition and Galaga Legions would be nice to see on the PSN.spadgy wrote:Awesome video. I'm even more excited about this now - they seem to have modernised it without interfering with that particular pace of Xevious..
At any rate, with the PS3 being able to play PS1 games, you'll really be able to get a LOT of Xevious in with this and Xevious 3D/G+

All production models of PS3 consoles (don't know about debug ones though) can play PS1 discs, as long as it matches your console region.spadgy wrote:Not so in PAL-land! I'm bloody lucky to have a de-bug unit, as now UK PS3s barely even play PS2 games. The Namco Museum Essentials comp arrived on the US PSN store yesterday. Only played the demo so far (which doesn't allow you to play Xevious Resurrection). Anybody played it yet? If so, worth $10?
Doesn't look like you need to go into Home to play it (thankfully), though it does unlock stuff for Home if you care about that sort of thing.

I personally think it's worth it. I was kind of iffy on it at first but after seeing all the options and stuff I felt better about the purchase. For example, you can choose four (!) different Arcade revisions for Dragon Spirit. It has optional rapid fire support. You can even make the rapid analog and change how fast you want to shoot in relation to how hard to press the button. The emulation is really good, this is the best home port of Dragon Spirit I've played and the other games look and feel perfect to me. There are leaderboards, and in each game you can collect secret stamps, I'm still trying to get them all.

Re: Xevious Resurrection (Home)
How exactly do you chose between the different Arcade Versions of Dragon Spirit?
I bought the japanese Version a couple of month ago and didn´t notice that option probably due to the jap. Text.
I only noticed that you can change the style of the borders.
Also maybe it´s just my imagination but when using the Rapid-Fire for the Bomb and the Shot I felt some slow-down.
Edit: I had to download an 100 MB-sized-Update for the Game today before I started playing.
Afterwards I found the option for the different Arcade revisions....really never noticed it before

Re: Xevious Resurrection (Home)
Xevious Resurrection is ok - I had lots of fun with it today and while it's completely redone with an "added twist", it stilll feels very old school Xevious. Purists might not welcome the inclusion of the laser-shield system thingy but IMHO it adds a lot of fun. Well worth the purchase.
As for dragon spirit, well, I love the game, call me crazy but I love it so much that I just can't play it with that horrible filtering. On a more positive note, the games come all with a sound player which not only has all BGM included but every single sound-FX too - it's awesome

Does the full game allow you to switch between different games without quitting out entirely? I tried the demo, but once you start a game there doesn't seem to be an option to get back to the main menu.

Re: Xevious Resurrection (Home)
You sure about the demo not having that option? It should be the last option in the in-game "black bar" menu they tacked over the emulation.
Either way, yes you can go back to title in the full version.

I didn't see one in the demo. Once I'd started up, e.g. Dig Dug or Xevious, I had to quit the game and start it up again to play a different one. Pressing 'start' brought up a menu but I didn't see an option to take you back to the main menu.

Re: Xevious Resurrection (Home)
Finally got around to purchasing and playing this from the PlayStation Store. Only had time for a few credits, but so far I'm super pleased with it. At first you're in generic space-shooter world, and the game is taking you through the mechanics. Eventually, though, you get to the lush green environments I was hoping for. At that point the game gets a really nice pace to it, and the music gets nostalgic.
The shield is a nice addition, but what impresses me most isn't the addition of an extra button to the gameplay. It's the way they subtly tweaked the ship's speed/maneuverability. They manage at once to capture Xevious's distinctively slow ship speed with just enough extra maneuverability to make the more manic gameplay manageable. I might change my mind with further play, but so far they seem to have gotten this exactly right.
For me it's now an open question whether Xevious Arrangement or Xevious Resurrection is the most successful sequel. Looking forward to settling the issue.

I will check the screen options first chance I get.RoninBuddha wrote:does xevious resurrection have tate?

I am totally uneducated when it comes to Home. How the hell do I go about playing Xevious on it?
Re: Xevious Resurrection (Home)
no idea about Home, but Namco Museum Essentials (in which Xevious Resurrection in included) is a normal PSN download.

As I expected, there aren't a lot of screen options. Just an option concerning size. However, if you have a decent sized HDTV, it's as good as tate on a smaller screen.RoninBuddha wrote:does xevious resurrection have tate?
I'm now thinking that Xevious Arrangement (1995) is the most fun in the series. That game is fantastic. The focus is still on precision shooting and bombing more than bullet dodging, but the fast-pace gameplay is likely to win over most Xevious-haters.

I never heard of this game until today; it looks interesting.
I still like the original game best. It creates a feeling I think is unmatched in any of the many remakes/sequels. But I like Arrangement very much, because it plays so well.
