James, these are amazing. I need more.JDE wrote: Hzt was DJ for the evening, I'm pretty sure the playlist was mainly Okada Yukiko and Yamada Nobuko (as in REBECCA). Also I requested Tamura Eriko but I can't remember if that got played or not.
Do you like Yumi Matsutoya?

Best music video of all time.

Most apt cover of all time.
80's Japanese pop is conceptually so perfect. Effectively stealing every aspect of western synthetic pop and then delivering it with a po-faced intensity devoid of any irony. And the production is often sublime.

Well I'm considering grabbing a Chinese at Wong Kei's at some point. If you or anyone else wants to come along, feel free to join me! JWS, I'll avoid cluttering the thread with more J-pop stuff since you can discuss that with MX7, hzt and me later this evening.MX7 wrote:Looking forward to this Saturday! Are there any crazy plans?

Secret shmup handshake.
There's some unflattering pictures of most people here and I guess we'll be downstairs.

I went to a Chinese restaurant last night. And at lunch time. But I will go again. Also I was out till 7am or something so excuse me if I mostly sit quietly in the corner tonight.JDE wrote:Well I'm considering grabbing a Chinese at Wong Kei's at some point. Okay thanks, I'm carrying a rucksack and I've got a skinhead haircut so if you see me looking lost can someone shout Chris at me?

Re: London Casino Crew meets (RIP the Arcade)
So sorry I didm't make it this time guys (so much for my 'Shmup Goals for 2014 post). I've been very lucky and got my first gig doing game script editing this last week, but saying yes to it (which I had to jump at) meant moving quite a chunk of other work to the weekend. And then I may have got so involved in that work I forgot to tell you all it was a 'no' until far too late).
I will be there next time!
Onto Las Vegas Arcade, it seems we'll very likely get a shmup cab or two in there soon. Not sure how soon, but they will, I believe, be Jaleco Pony cabs of some kind. Don't get too excited though; loaning our boards might be something the senior team at the arcade are a bit too corporate for, for now. But all in good time, maybe. For now we'll have to see what they chose for us... Oh - and other Jalecos are going in too, as they may be doing more 'traditional' (AKA 'non-dedicated') games there.

Good to meet you too Chris! I promised Blinge and JWS "The full Wong Kei experience"... and we definitely got it!PAPER/ARTILLERY wrote:Hey folks, nice to meet you all last night, I'll be along again sometime soon. Hope you enjoyed your Chinese.

As for our other guest (I'm sorry, can't remember your real name) thanks very much for recommending Batsugun to me: never played it before, but I've been having a great time collecting pigs and reading the hilarious Engrish quotes! I hope you can make it to the next Mini Meet.
Are we allowed to read it? I'm expecting something to rival Casablanca and Pulp Fiction by the way.spadgy wrote:So sorry I didn't make it this time guys (so much for my Shmup Goals for 2014 post). I've been very lucky and got my first gig doing game script editing this last week.

The Wong Kei rite of initiation was awesome, although it has counter-stopped my bowels...
Re: London Casino Crew meets (RIP the Arcade)
Obviously it's better than any of that dross!JDE wrote:Are we allowed to read it? I'm expecting something to rival Casablanca and Pulp Fiction by the way.
Sounds like you guys had a top time at the weekend. Very sad I missed it. Did the Wong Kei rite of passage involve eating a cockroach at all?
Re: London Casino Crew meets (RIP the Arcade)
^Try Young Cheng on Shaftesbury Avenue. The Ho Fun black bean sauce works wonders

Re: London Casino Crew meets (RIP the Arcade)
Anything happening this weekend punks?
I'm all alone Sunday. Be happy to have a few of you round for some shmups (we could also tuck into the six new shmup superplay VHS I just bought!).

Re: London Casino Crew meets (RIP the Arcade)
Is that 6 superplays on a single VHS, or 6 VHS tapes? Also, which shmups are featured?spadgy wrote:We could also tuck into the six new shmup superplay VHS I just bought!
Edit: Looks like I won't be able to make it today after all.
