I see the demographics here as being slip into two camps: spaceship people and flying anime people. There's plenty of crossover, but generally, if you have a Truxton skullbomb tattoo, you're in the first group, and if you casually use Japanese words in everyday conversation, you're in the second.

Single Credit Completionist from beginning until the end. All I play for is the 1CC. I only worry about score when it comes to getting extends. Once I get the 1CC, I'm done.

1cc'er is what I'd describe myself. I'll play the hell out of a shmup and try to score as high as I can, but once I nail the 1cc I have little interest to keep going.

This for me too. I go for the extends and beyond if I can, in terms of scoring, but almost always fall back to pure survival play in later stages. And rarely I go back to a game to improve on a score after a clear. It's on to the next game.
I'm also a bit of an adrenaline junkie. To the point where I find that a on-my-last-legs clear is more satisfying than a run where I play exceptionally well and beat the game with a lot of resources left. The fact that I'm terrible at shmups is almost a good thing in this regard, since every clear feels like the most challenging thing ever.

'Rage quitting idiot' is perhaps a more realistic one, but out of your list, I always go for 1CC's most actively, but I struggle to focus my play on survival, as all the thrill for me is learning the finer points of scoring. So while I'm not a necessarily capable scorer, but I'd come under the scorer category too. And I do like to line them up on my shelves if I'm honest, with overpriced related bits of paper and cardboard.

2> I was stood next to a fighting game player, watching someone play a shmup (I can't remember which), he said he didn't play but likes this one as it's a "thinking man's shmup." Hardly a profound moment but sticks in my memory for some reason.

Not sure how timewaster applies to shmups precisely however, like filling 10 minute empty spaces in your day?

I do see your point. While I love that thrill of a 1CC, and knowing a game inside out, there's nothing like starting out on a new shmup with much to learn, hitting up the strategy section, studying super plays. In fact, part of the fun of you, I and the rest of the London Shmups Crew meeting up is going through that together. Tucking into a new shmup over time with fellow players is the best kind of shmupping there is.
