SONY PVM and BVM Comparison

Hello all,

could someone tell me or give me a link to a description of the two types of SONY Monitors please?

Which is generally better for Retrogaming? I want to buy at least one extra, good quality Monitor for RGB use on my older Consoles such as the NeoGeo, Megadrive, etc.

You're in Germany. So it's not really about having much choice. It makes more sense to just check what's available in your area and then see if they (the monitors) are any good. There are basically just two criteria, which are important: if you want a 29" display instead of a 20" one, get a PVM and if you want the best geometry and convergence, get a BVM.

FWIW I like my PVM 20L5 a good bit - convergence seems great but geometry could be better. I don't know if I could have found a much newer PVM than the one I did (2002), though a few years probably won't make much difference.

It's a bit more than 10 pounds lighter than a roughly equivalent BVM (68 pounds 6 oz / 31 kg for the PVM; 37 kg or over 81 pounds for the BVM-20G1x series) so there is that to consider as well. BVM-A20F1 is even heavier; 40 kilos / 88 pounds. On the plus side, those are newer still - but also seem to be expensive when they crop up (and so is the older D series, which seems to be over double the price of PVMs).

Overall I am interested in the BVM again but I would really rather not deal with the extra weight - 80+ pounds starts to get into "too big to carry around even once" territory I think.
