Buying a few small houseplants to act as a visual counterbalance to the techno-nightmare I've made my room into, and having them grow so monstrously huge that they blot out the sun.

The type of shit where you have to wipe again an hour later.

One of those loud stomach noises that sounds exactly like a fart, especially when some other guy seizes the opportunity to let a fart out, knowing it'll be blamed on you.

Yesterday, I took my first college english class, and the teacher let us out at 8pm instead of 9:50pm because it was the "first day". Why does this piss me off? Because my dad is also taking a class with me on that day that runs for the same amount of time. So I was wandering around aimlessly for TWO FUCKING HOURS! He could've at least gone over the syllabus or something, but I guess that happens next week.

Speaking of classes, I have another one I'm taking today on game design that lasts from 6pm to 10:50 pm. Second longest class I've been in.

Yikes.

Man, I'm pretty glad I can just run over to the Student Union when I have ridiculous downtime like that. And even still, I have a kick scooter [since the campus is effing huge], so I could just zip around for the fun of it.
Hell, I even just bought new wheels for the thing, 's great.

and I'd probably go insane from a 5 hour course, yikes

Boring teachers are the worst -- my Microcontrollers teacher pretty much has a CHA stat of 1. The material isn't the least interesting thing, and he spoke rather clearly, but wow. I was so happy when he let us out early [he ran out of material].

My Data Structures teacher is great though, very passionate, kept things interesting, made sure we didn't nod off.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Sorry if I've ranted on this before but...

Price jackers on eBay and Amazon.

More specifically, there's a series of science fiction novels I've wanted to read since I was a kid, but they were hard to find. Imagine my surprise when I learn there's actually a hardcover reprint of them that was made in 2009, and there's more volumes in production.

... Then I look at the price tag for the first volume and I'm like "Fuck you, Amazon Marketplace."

Seriously, do items priced so exhorbitantly ever actually SELL? If they don't, why do these insane pricings continue?

People who have images on unsafe domains in their signature, making my AV freak out every time I load a page with their posts (not talking about this forum, btw).

Live commentary. At this point I'm actively avoiding any Youtube gameplay videos with English in the title/description.

Oh man, that's the worst. THIS PAGE IS UNSAFE even though there is only a jpg from said evil domain [to be fair, I do remember there being a rather nasty buffer overflow exploit involving Windows XP's image viewer a while back].

Also, I just switched to LavaSoft's antivirus because Avast started putting little ads for its other services where it would normally announce updates and stuff [also, apparently LavaSoft's catches a lot more].

The thing that's been bugging me, all over shmup farm for some time, is stuff hosted on dropboxuserconent with https that causes a notice to popup about certificates.

Having to wait 5+ years for anything HomeStar Runner or Crash Bandicoot to come out proper, perhaps.

Yeah, its a shame Homestar Runner just died silently like that.

Shame about Homestar Runner. Then again, it's been like ten years since I paid any attention to it.

The FCC's USA network neutrality rules got the surgical treatment in the courts yesterday:

Oh no, it'll be back someday, "When we least expect it"...

This one's kinda weird but compiling a playlist of obscure content on YouTube only to discover some of them have now been taken down with you without a copy, which is fucking bullshit, especially when you don't entirely remember what they were. I was doing one for Aardman's commercials and now two of them from Cuprinol and Domestos are missing.

And speaking of videos, not being able to find a decent, actually fully free video editing program that can properly split videos down to the frame. Any suggestions?

Yep, same shit happened to me yesterday. I hate that they don't even provide the title or anything, so if you have a large list of saved stuff, good luck figuring out what the hell it was!

That's why personally, if I really like a video, I download it to my hard drive.

There was a particular Youtube Poop I liked--"Random Cat in the Hat 2008 Edition"--which got taken down, all except for part 3 (for whatever reason). I thought it would always exist. I learned my lesson.

Yeah, but fortunately in my case they had the titles so I was somewhat able to deduce what they were.
And you have a point with the download thing. Fortunately a lot of the videos I watch are copyrighted or available on other sites! I guess the "possibly not okay to download without creator's permission" prospect may have blocked me off a bit, but I guess at this point who cares...
Well, I'm off to go download 200+ Aardvert videos.

People who wear "I am tech illiterate" like a badge of honor, while at the same time prying into my personal life and asking for help because their computers are slow.

That sounds really annoying. Someone should really point out their hypocrisy.

Damn, I just skipped past that not knowing what is was until I watched Alpha Omega Sin's video. And I thought it was bad when SOPA was supposedly coming back in 2013...

The ruling apparently was on a technical basis - that the FCC appeared to have conflicting rules. It seems possible that it will get fixed somehow or other.

Got the customer and returns services in my mailbox and on the phone every day as well.
Most of the time it's just 'have you tried to turn it off an on again' or googling manuals and support documentation for them, which solves 99% of the cases and people could do that by themselves but heh...
I want to nuke everyone.

Ribbon cables. They're a distressingly common point of failure, they're a hassle to deal with, they make putting back a piece of kit a hell of a lot more dangerous than it should [eg, you end up messing the cable up somehow during reassembly so the device ends up fucked], etc, etc.

Oh, and tiny-ass screws made out of soft metal [hello, stripping!]. I'm mainly talking about the screws on the PSP and on the 3DS battery door. Fuck that shit.

I have a bottle of screwgrab. That shit doesn't work.

At this point, I think I just hate Phillips head screwdrivers too.

Oh, and on another note, fuck pure ASCIIbetical sorting of file names. I know why it exists [it's piss easy to do the comparison, you just check whether one character byte is greater than the other], but it has some rather nasty properties, namely 1: separates lowercase titles from uppercase and 2: you end up with shit like 1.jpg 10.jpg 100.jpg 11.jpg ...skipping... 19.jpg 2.jpg 20.jpg ...etc...

At the very least though, just ignore case and sort by number blocks and then ASCII order.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Sellers who go out of their way to "clean up" something by tearing off the interesting stickers and so on for no good reason. Makes you wonder if you even got the item pictured.

*rattle rattle* This can't be good!

Tales from The Olden Days: Bad Game Reviews

http://www.vreonline.net/action/deathkeep.html
All music in DeathKeep is stored as .WAV files on the CD-Rom, thus a 4x CD-Rom drive is highly recommended. What's odd, however, is the fact that the music plays back with a lot of hiss in the background--but the .WAV files themselves contain no hiss. Apparently the music player is introducing this hiss.
http://www.gamespot.com/deathkeep/
Interface and graphics aside, the biggest problem with DeathKeep is its lack of character generation. You must play one of three characters: a fighter, a mage, or a fighter-mage. By eliminating the option of creating an alter-ego, SSI has removed one of the most satisfying qualities of a role-playing game. It's hard to feel much empathy for a canned character.
...It's a Hexen-like. (At the time, people might have called it a "DOOM clone," as did the previous review.)

I love old reviews like this, where the reviewer is looking at the game through some completely inappropriate paradigm based on previous stuff they've played, or completely obsessed with the tech ladder. In the case of the GameSpot review, both. Pixelated even on a Pentium 90! What's the minimum RAM requirement for the game, guys?

As much as people like to complain about gaming and game reviews today, many of these old ones put things into perspective.
