I'm in the process of setting up a dedicated shmup MAME cab.
Issues:
1) 19XX, one of my favorites, no longer works in MAME. I don't know how far back. I use GroovyMAME, so using an older version of MAME isn't an option for me. Doubtful it will be re-dumped so I'm just screwed? I do have the PCB but was planning on selling.
2) Anyone else interested in someone compiling the latest GroovyMAME with the Cave SH3 driver and Hi Score patch for 32-bit?
19XX and Cave in MAME
Re: 19XX and Cave in MAME
It seems to work for me using MAME 0.152.E-Type wrote:1) 19XX, one of my favorites, no longer works in MAME. I don't know how far back. The "bad dump" message is probably related to the Q-Sound works (DSP16), which were done in July.
Anyway, a game does not necessarily stop working just because it gets marked as a "bad dump"

1) It works fine, if your roms are wrong that doesn't mean MAME is broken.E-Type wrote:I'm in the process of setting up a dedicated shmup MAME cab.

2) A 32-bit build isn't going to give you consistently adequate performance in those drivers, not even on a top-end i7, you need a 64-bit build and a 64-bit OS otherwise you're throwing away at least 30% of the performance.
Re: 19XX and Cave in MAME
I didn't imply that I think MAME is broken. It's a fact that new versions of MAME can render older roms incompatible. I've attempted to get a new 19XX from various sources without success. May I ask where you got yours?
Interesting about 32-bit. I'd still like to test for myself.

Re: 19XX and Cave in MAME
People shouldn't / couldn't point you to a ROM download site in this topic, as it is a against the forum rules.
Re: 19XX and Cave in MAME
Without pointing to actual download sites, some general advice about getting MAME roms should be acceptable:
- Use torrents. Torrents have the advantage that they are properly labeled (look for a complete set and for MAME 0.152, of course), avoiding trouble with random old files, and downloads have the proper directory structure and are ready to use. Remember that you don't need to download many gigabytes for the whole set, you can select only the roms you care about.
- If a site says its roms are for a MAME version that is older than the second last major version, it isn't updated adequately. Finding a better source will be faster than waiting for an update.
- If a site doesn't state clearly for what MAME version the roms are for, it isn't updated, period. Remove it from your bookmarks and browser history. RIP.

Re: 19XX and Cave in MAME
indeed, all qsound based games now need to load the internal ROM from the qsound chip. It is handled as a common device rom, so should be present in qsound.zipKeade wrote:E-Type wrote:1) 19XX, one of my favorites, no longer works in MAME. I don't know how far back. it isn't currently used for the emulation, but to the best of our knowledge it is correct (although that is subject to change, it doesn't currently run, we still depend on the simulation)
MAME presents to the user what we know at any given point in time. We know more now than we did a few years back, so an extra file is required, and may later actually be depended on for the emulation too.
Re: 19XX and Cave in MAME
Q-Sound solved the problem. Thanks
Re: 19XX and Cave in MAME
Yeah, I just ran into this problem yesturday while messing around with some MAME STGs & I craved some 19XX. And after I for sure overwritten the rom for that game there with proper ones 151 updated ones, and seen the QSound erroe again, I knew it for sure had to be a bios thing. So I donwloaded it, tossed it where it's supposed to go, and it works.E-Type wrote:Q-Sound solved the problem. Thanks
Weird thing is I had it working before & I had a bios pack in there. Did they just seperate QSound from the game and put it in separate with the bios category? And if so, what else got seperated? Even though I also re-downloaded a bios pack again that hopefully more updated? (Should compare sizes...) It's still good to know, though. Anyone know for sure?
