haha i just realized that you removed pretty much everything i like about the original
(though that's not necessarily a bad thing; maybe it's more like i made a chocolate shake and you kept tweaking the recipe until we ended up in pasta territory)

I'm having some functionality problems with my PC for some reason. It's the main reason why I neglected playing the original version. For some reason after beating the first stage, my game speeds up making it impossible for me to dodge things and inevitably giving me a game over. The game stays in that sped-up state permanently until I close it and start the game up again. It also enters this state if I start the game and exit back into the main menu. Basically, I can't get past the second stage because of this.
This happens for both versions (vanilla & Cagar label) of the game for me.

For the record. The game crashes:
Every time I clear the 1st stage
Sometimes before the 1st boss
Every time I press the Abort button
Sometimes when I press any button on the tittle screen
When I exit the adjust menu

This game is just way too fucking hard. Its the enemy attacks so early on in the game. Makes it IMPOSSIBLE for someone casual to even try to enjoy without wanting to find something to break in rage.
Like those small hexagonical enemies that shoot out the THIN AS ALL HELL spiraling patterns. I guess a better term I could use is Difficulty balancing. Its just Troll-Hard difficulty.

The current Hi score is at 43 Billion. I can't really go posting something that isn't even TEN PERCENT of that. My Superiority Complex on myself kind of denies me that. You're right though, I can get to about Stage 3 midboss, and then I lose my last life.

So I'm on practice mode, trying to clear Stage 3 right? I finally clear through the stage and I reach the boss. I take the boss down with close to no issues.
And then I'm put through some Stone-Like style survival attack. Seriously wtf. This is STAGE THREE, for Pete's sake.

I know, I totally went WTF and died out of panic and surprise the first time that happened. It's not really that threatening if you know it's coming though, especially in the new version.
The idea with the Stage 3 boss is to kill most of the side parts, but not all of them, because it goes to a really hard attack if you do. I like to kill everything except the top-left part; that way, you can attack the core from the right half of the screen, and the only thing that has a chance to hit you is this weaksauce aimed zigzag attack.

Any tips on surviving that Final attack? Spearlight doesn't regen quick enough to be depended on for escapes.

I find it's easier to just follow the streams, circling around the boss. Those double-bullets have fairly small hitboxes so moving between them is possible, but it's still pretty hard to judge.
If the final phase is tied to the length of the soundtrack, perhaps from a survival perspective it would make sense to time out the easy aimed attack so the final phase is shorter?
Also, 5 billion in Stage 1 is possible? O_O The best I've done there is about 1.2 billion... I can see that 2 billion could be possible with a high-risk route, but... 5? I'm not sure if I believe that o_o

Best I've done on Stage one was 1.4b following stage bonuses. You'd need to have Spearlight regen speeds TRIPLED to be able to rack up enough Multiplier imo. I think the other factor is point blanking. Not really sure, though.

I've gotten a maximum of 3 billion (i think) in the first stage, mainly through the injudicious application of lasers. Everywhere. On everyone.

Not sure how I'd go about getting 5 billion, anyway. I've yet to work out EXACTLY, how raising multiplier and hits work. How many of either enemies are worth, what makes shooting things add Hit, etc.
