Even if you don't like Gravity Rush or Uncharted, there's other stuff too. PS+ alone makes the Vita worth it. I can't remember if Guacamelee is this month, but that's supposed to be a pretty good Metroidvania. Some people also really like games like Everybody's Golf, Hotline Miami, Proteus etc.

And don't forget that via PSN, you also open yourself up to PS1 and PSP games. Everyone talks about how the Vita has no games, but scratch beneath the surface (PSN), and you realise that it has loads. I guess having a more online-centric strategy means that the Vita doesn't get as much gaming shelf space, resulting in the handheld having a negative perception amongst less informed gamers.

Their loss...

Edit: you should consider Skykid's PS+ subscription offer. Pretty competitive pricing. And he's honest and has a verifiable history, so you won't be getting ripped off.

Hey! I just bought one and it should arrive this coming week! What should I get for it? No RPGs of any kind, thanks...
No Vita owner should be without Wipeout 2048.

Except you don't own PS+ games, making them next to worthless. It's hard to believe that so many people conveniently forget this.

The archive libraries are pointless if you already own a PS3 and PSP, and there are many PSP titles that haven't been converted or are only available on UMD.

The fact is that the Vita is seriously lacking in desirable exclusive titles that make it worth owning, which wasn't a problem with the PSP. The 3DS also suffers from this problem if you're not interested in JRPGs.

If your satisfaction comes from having something on your shelf, I guess.. But it seems pretty shortsighted to call something worthless when you can play and enjoy them as much as you want until you cancel your account.

If you just want to quickly play through a lot of disposable games without holding onto them or being able to revisit them years down the road, Gamefly is a better option that isn't locked down to Sony's platforms or beholden to their whims.

No one forgets it, not owning it is the default when buying digital goods so it is not worth mentioning. It's also assumed you'll read up on what a subscription service is before subscribing.

The people complaining about the lack of a paragraph of comprehensive information each time someone mentions PS+ is usually the ones who knows exactly what it is and are whining just for the sake of it.

Everyone who subscribes to PS+ does so because they feel they're getting some value from it. Your opinion that it's worthless is, well, worthless without any reasoning to go with it.

I haven't used Gamefly, but I assume it's like Netflix used to be. You choose what you want out of a selection they currently have on hand, and they send you some beat up media. Even if the selection is fantastic and the merchandise is clean and scratch-free, Gamefly still costs (roughly) 4-5 times more than PS+.

Meanwhile, PS+ doesn't limit you to 1-2 games at a time. It also gives a ton of discounts on digital merchandise, some server-side game save space, beta access, exclusive demos, online multiplayer, etc. If these things don't interest you, fine.. don't sub. However calling it worthless is just an ignorant statement, or possibly just trolling.

Both, maybe.

It's excellent value for money, especially for people (like me) who have all 3 current PS systems (PS3/Vita/PS4). Current US PS+ selection: http://us.playstation.com/playstation-plus/
Another nice advantage of PS+ is cloud storage for all saves (they aren't deleted once you stop subscribing; like the games you downloaded for free on PS+ you can access them again if you re-subscribe).

Does that mean you need a server playing the game itself? How does this actually work?

Here's your (probably one and only) chance to get a white US PS Vita 1000.

They have a couple of hundred in stock.

That's really nice looking. Just this morning I discovered my daughter put a scratch on my Vita (fortunately not on the screen!) playing Persona 4 all weekend. Kids. No respect for the games and systems as lovely items to be treasured. Just the other day I found her carelessly sitting on my SMT IV LE box, putting an ugly crease in the cardboard. Don't get me wrong: I'm glad the games get some use when I'm too busy to do so. Still irritating.

I seriously recommend getting screen protectors for Vita, I have them on both sides.

I've got two on order. Does the same size (the one for the screen) work well for both sides of the thing?

And you bought those from...where? And how much were they? What company makes them, and what part number(s) are they?

Thanks!

boagman wrote:Just now bought "The Sex". Grabbed a "The Walking Dead" PS Vita bundle off Amazon for $190 shipped, including a voucher for the game and a (rather small) 4GB memory card. Still, it was all bought with Amazon Gift Card credit, so there's no hit to my actual wallet. I've bought it more to somewhat honor the fact that the PSP has been nothing shy of stellar to me, and the hardware looks terrific, even if the available software doesn't look all that appealing.

Really hope the screen is better than what I've seen in the kiosks and such at Target and wherever else.

Jumped in for under $200 to start. Hope it's worth it.
And the twists keep on coming. You'll note the date of the original quote: December 29. I ordered it and took them up on their free "slow boat to China" shipping on orders of $35 or more, as I wasn't in any real consequential hurry. I'm not leaving for Fort Lauderdale until the 18th of this month. Time's quickly become a factor, though: they told me the estimate for receiving it was 6-8 days from the time I ordered it, meaning that January 9 was the last possible day it should arrive.

Guess what didn't come today. While some could reasonably stipulate that the POLAR VORTEX OF DOOM is in some way partially responsible for the issue, it doesn't explain why it's taking over 2 weeks (they're now telling me it'll come next week) to get the thing, why the tracking for the thing isn't working or up-to-date (last known event was in New Berlin, Wisconsin, just outside of Milwaukee, almost three *days* ago), why it took them FIVE STINKING DAYS to ship an in-stock item out of their warehouse in Texas, before any of the whole weather thing happened...there's a lot that isn't being reasonably explained.

What *has been* explained to me, though, is that my money's been refunded, *and* I get to keep the item when it arrives! So, while I can't say that it's been a flawless thing, I *can* say that, if I end up getting this thing at no cost to me, then I'm going to be *extraordinarily* happy with the whole fiasco.

We'll see what happens from here.

So I got my Ys Ark of Napishtim, Space Invaders Extreme, and Final Fantasy IV through the post on PSP.

Ys and Space Invaders have both gone back up on sale. Should get about £25 after commission fees etc. Therefore meaning that I actually get paid about £5 to keep Final Fantasy IV. Result.

The slick solution to not have your beloved PSVita not get scratched, is to pick up one of those crystal clear Vita shells...works like a charm on mine. Bought one of those Madcatz Armor shells and even includes a removable protective plastic piece for the backside touchpad area as well (something that most other 3rd-party PSVita crystal clear shells don't provide anyways). The handy bottomside display stand is a very welcome feature/highlight (swings back into the shell itself when not in use).

http://www.amazon.com/Catz-ArmorShell-P ... ystal+case

Placed one of those official Sony Vita screen protectors on the touch screen as well for extra insurance upon unboxing it for the 1st time. It's no fun having to deal with a scratched "naked" Vita touch screen either.

I don't like screen protectors, so I'm pretty happy that the Vita screen always is covered in a rainbow haze because of fingerprints anyway so I can't see any rainbow coloring because of scratches.

I wonder if the 2000 screen is an improvement in that area.

Edit:
Image
Only "nearly done" means it probably won't be possible to get while on an exploitable firmware :(

That said, portable Duke3D is not enough to make me give up on portable Doom and Quake. Been playing Valkyria Chronicles III a lot on my Vita lately, 30 hours in and it's pretty excellent. I did mention the translation was released right? The poor reception it has seen makes me realize why Sega didn't bother localizing the game.

Edit2: that was actually old news. Here are the new news.

Got it in today's mail! Took them 13 days to get it to me, but the price is certainly right!

Not bad for free, eh? What should I get for it, now? I'm already going to get screen protectors and the case that PC Engine Fan X has recommended.

Edit: I cannot for the life of me figure out how to use the "Img" tab above to post my picture. Tried putting the URL for the pic in there, and it didn't work. Anyway, got my free Vita from Amazon now! Yes!

I don't see a need for Vita protection unless you let small kids use it, and you aren't excessively careless.

Well, I'm probably a bit OCD with stuff like this, and the Vita will be in my gym bag for most of the time, just like the PSP is (inside of its case, of course). I've been extremely careful with my PSP, but I'm human. I know it's been dropped a time or two, and general use probably will get it a scratch here or there with the way life is.

Plus, it's easy to spend more when they're picking up the tab for it!

To me, that's customer service that's gone *way beyond* the call. I'm going to be an Amazon customer for a long time as a result.

This post is mostly aimed at Skykid... Martin Robinson has just had a piece published about Contra 3 on Eurogamer. I guess I have no choice but to give kudos and respect to him.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014- ... rospective

Just wish the developers were interviewed as well.

Would love to see the game get released on Vita.

Edit: Just read the piece. It's too "wishy washy" and lacks substance. Definitely preferred the work of another writer called Tom Massey when he did a "retrospective" on Zelda: OoT. Wish he'd contribute more...

You're saying you missed the splendour of Mega Drive Hokuto no Ken: Shin Seikimatsu Kyseishu Densetsu? ;)

I should note an error was inserted into the coverage by the editor. In the original draft the relationship between the Master System and Mark III was explained, but removed before publishing, making two paragraphs confusing for people who don't know what a Mark III is. Hopefully it will be corrected soon.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014- ... rospective

I think the Contra 3 is a decent write-up for what it's worth, it pings all the right influences and its wonderful variety.
