I didn't know Aldynes was developed by former IREM employees

Post by parallaxscroll2 »

Aldynes: The Mission Code for Rage Crisis, is a horizontal scrolling shoot 'em up game developed by Produce
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aldynes
Produce is a Japanese video game company. Founded on April 6, 1990 by former Irem employees, it developed a number of games for both Enix and Hudson Soft. They have created games for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo 64, PlayStation, and PC Engine systems

Founded in 1990 by ex-Irem employees and lead by Shinji Imada, Produce undertook a lot of work for Hudson and Enix before making a name of its own with the Paca Paca Passion series on Playstation and in the arcades. At the height of its ten-year lifespan, Produce had 40 employees.

Longplay of Aldynes that includes the credits:

I'm not actually surprised Aldynes was developed by former Irem employees, as a dev team called Produce, for Hudson Soft, I was just not aware of that, until now.

Well, it's no wonder, Aldynes is a well-designed horizontal shmup that plays very well and looks good too. Stage 3 is just incredible.

So strange, none of the listed staff for Aldynes are listed as having worked on an Irem game at least according to mobygames. I don't get why it's so hard to keep track of who did what at Irem.

Yeah tell me about it.

It would also be nice to know for sure whether or not anyone from Irem worked at Aicom on Pulstar.
Pulstar (パルスター?) is a shoot 'em up developed by now defunct Aicom Co. Ltd and published by SNK for the Neo Geo, Neo Geo CD and arcade; it is the predecessor of Blazing Star.
The game has very obvious similarities in design and gameplay to R-Type. It is actually believed that some ex-Irem employees left the company to join Aicom, which used to be a subcontractor for various coin-op manufacturers like Jaleco or SNK.

Blazing Star (ブレイジングスター?) is a scrolling shooter video game for the Neo Geo home game system. It is the sequel to the acclaimed Neo Geo shooter Pulstar, which was itself a close cousin to the R-Type franchise.
The development name of the game was "Pulstar Blast".

Ironically I actually managed to unearth the credits to Meikyu Jima aka Kickcle Cubicle, but moby games rejected the submission because it was for the arcade game.... Regardless we should start putting together a list of Irem employees and the. Start scanning for who left when. It continues to amaze me how little we know about the making of r-type despite being a major figure in shmup history.

Oh wow, Laurel_McFang, you're that hardcore about keeping track of employees?! I plan on writing credits down for all fave shmups of mine that I beat too for purpose of tracking devs. ... Only I still suck at shmups and not beating them fast enough. >_< So yea, hope you can start something with this and we all pitch in. I think we at this forum should all try and write down credits for all shmups we beat as we play at our own pace and make it like a wiki page for easy point and click to list all games for whoever we click on.

Check moby games and other sites for credits first, while moby doesn't handle arcade games, home ports will be listed. There are a few other sites out there. What games are you collecting credits for? You can also submit the results of your research to the giant bomb wiki, but even sites like moby games have a hard time tracking all the credits etc. Haven't had a chance to do any research in the direction of Irem games in awhile, but I will probably start making lists for games soon.

One former employee refers to the game as "R-Type Gaiden." Honestly, beyond the president, I don't know if there were any other former Irem employees at Produce. Imada was a planner on R-Type and Image Fight.

I asked someone who worked at Aicom II/Yumekobo, and they weren't too sure. I think any "Irem involvement," if any, is overblown.
