Shortest/Easiest TwinBee game?
Shortest/Easiest TwinBee game?
I'm going to be participating in a Konami games marathon for charity or something in a couple months. We're trying to dig up some non-Contra/Castlevania stuff to play, and I found TwinBee.
Are any of them particularly easy to 1CC, or are at least fairly short or spectator-friendly? I'm kinda bad (I can beat Jamestown but that's about it) but I have lots of time ahead of me (I got pretty good at a few games in only a couple weeks for our Mega Man marathon yesterday), I just don't want to use too much time on the marathon if I don't have to. Looks like there's a million so it seemed easier to just ask than go through them all one by one.

The Game Boy one, TwinBee Da, can be cleared within a couple tries. I'm not sure how spectator-friendly a Game Boy game would be, though, even if you go with the colorized version from the European Konami GB Collection Vol. 3.
Alternatively, you could go with TwinBee Yahho. It's not too easy, but it's short, and it has the most impressive graphics of a TwinBee game. My favorite in terms of gameplay, as well.
You might also consider a Parodius game.

Yahho is what comes to mind for me too. Don't ask me to explain, but it's always felt like a relative to Radiant Silvergun to me.

There is also one on the PSP version, in which 'Hard' difficulty can be finished in one go after playing a couple of times. There is also Pop 'n' Twinbee for the SFC/SNES that's worth trying.Mortificator wrote:The Game Boy one, TwinBee Da, can be cleared within a couple tries. Re: Shortest/Easiest TwinBee game?
I'm actually playing the 3d classics twin bee on the 3ds VC right now and loving it. I believe it's the same as the nes twin bee, but sometimes the nes got multiple versions of shooters (xevious comes to mind). The game is not overtly hard, but takes patience and a lot of tries. You will definitely want to practice with twin bee because the enemy patterns are a bit more difficult than many shmups, it's not so much a bullet hell series as it is a peculiar pattern game. The octopi go down the right or left sides and then stick at the bottom and managing the hills on the ground that fire at your can be hard. Regardless,of what you choose, do practice a lot. Also consider Gradius if possible Gradius v for ps2 or the Octomedius games for the xbox 360. Keep in mind that Konami also owns Hudson Sort now so so any of the Hudson Soft games might qualify.... Adventure island, bomber man, bonk, etc. also Konami did Life Force, Nemesis, Star Solider, and Quarth. The later is a fairly easy puzzle game loosely based off of Tetris, but in the guise of a shooter.
Btw Parodius and Octomedius are probably the most enjoyable to watch, seeing as how you will be fighting a giant raccoon as a paper airplane etc.

Octomedius lol, that actually sounds more interesting than Otomedius.
3D classics Twinbee is the same as the NES one. Doesn't require practice really, just exploitation. Get the spread shot, and chain bells until you have a ridiculous amount of lives to spare. Your chances of dying with the spreadshot are slim to begin with, and by chaining the bells for extends you will have so many lives that there's almost non way not to recover successfully if you do happen to die. When I cleared itI had like 30 lives by the time I got bored and suicided to end the run.

Yeah I didn't quite understand the bells were limited so I spent most of my first play through juggling bells trying to get power ups only to end up getting downed by ground based baddy. It seems like you can get most of the power ups in the game at the first stage alone. I will give chaining gold bells for extra lives a shot. Had a few yesterday. Thanks for the tip btw.ACSeraph wrote:Octomedius lol, that actually sounds more interesting than Otomedius.

Re: Shortest/Easiest TwinBee game?
3D Classics Twinbee is based off the Famicom version, but it's not the same. Default rapid fire rate is faster, maximum bell score is higher, default movement is faster, and it's even easier to score tons of lives. I have the Famicom Mini and it's harder than the 3D Classics version and closer to the actual FC cart. Still easy to loop, but it's much harder to recover from death than in the 3D Classics version. That said, I like the 3D Classics version quite a bit and it's definitely a good starter for those new to the series.
Re: Shortest/Easiest TwinBee game?
Yeah, this is what happens when ever I play TwinBeer games. >_< Hence why I never play more then a few seconds/minutes and forever turn it off only to forever repeat the vicious cycle of "hey what this? Oh yeah, let's me try it again and see if I can actually play it this time?" lol madness.Laurel_McFang wrote:Yeah I didn't quite understand the bells were limited so I spent most of my first play through juggling bells trying to get power ups only to end up getting downed by ground based baddy. Thought the only exception was the SNES one. Where timing for getting the powers ups seems to have been made a lot easier + difficulty seemed pretty tame even for console style difficulty levels... yeah I heard GB one & it's remake are super easy too...
The NES one is that easy? What? For real?! Guess I better do the same and stop worrying about getting the best powerups ASAP too, and start kicking some enemy butt. These games' dam powerup system is such a turnoff for me at the current moment. Hope this changes cause otherwise I'll be missing on a lot of Konami STG'ing goodness.

Re: Shortest/Easiest TwinBee game?
Does the 3DS version have nice graphics, including 3D-effects? Sounds promising.
Re: Shortest/Easiest TwinBee game?
Actually, the FC version is only easy if you get certain power ups. The shield lasts for a long time. The 3DS Twinbee uses sprites from the NES version, so it still looks like the NES game, though some graphics like the score amount that shows up when you get bells couldn't be done on NES. The 3D effect is actually very well done, though.
Pop 'n Twinbee isn't a hard game, but the levels are pretty long and it's not short. Twinbee 3 is a bit on the easy side on defaults (though hard is harder) and it's also pretty short (five stages). I like that one quite a bit, myself. The power up system works somewhat different. It takes longer to get to certain power ups, but it's also harder to accidentally change the bell color, if I remember correctly. You can also get all the powerups back after dying by catching a ghost of the ship that flies up after you lose a life. The game is one of the strangest Twinbee games with some crazy bosses like a baby with a leather jacket and shades that splits into multiple babies when you shoot him enough times.

Re: Shortest/Easiest TwinBee game?
Man, what BrainC just said is really motivating me to get back there and give this game a serious shot at it and keeping at it until it clicks. Gave it a lousy attempt again yesterday for part 1 & 3 NES, and lol, don't think I played them both combined for more then 3-5 minutes, and by the time I've had enough I was ready to smash my TV and rage like I've never raged before. I don't think a videogame ever got me anywhere near this pissed off?
Dam TwinBee and it's lousy powerup system. >_< Maybe that's why it's not around anymore? Why the crap did it last for all games? Is it actually fun to anyone? I'd like to know? You know, more motivation to play this game the better & I'm still hoping I might even enjoy the powerup system one day? I always try very hard to keep an open mind and to get the most out of all videogames... well, not sure about some crap out there, but you know what I mean.
