Just before attempting to do a Dreamcast internal VGA mod, I bought this cable from Hong Kong http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181281203971? ... 1497.l2649 .
Anyway I managed to do the VGA mod, it was surprisingly easy, I just had to watch a video on youtube to find out the best
way to route the wire (I used 28awg IDE ribbon and it goes under the board and comes out where the power supply prongs
are). Also, I attached RGB select and VGA select to pins 6 and 7 of the female VGA socket, and ground to pins 5 and 10.
This made it so that if I plug in a VGA cable it uses VGA mode, if it isn't plugged in I can use my SCART cable, basically
its switchless. Everything worked first time! I used mmmonkey's guide and used 100 ohm resistors instead of 150 because I
had 100s and didn't want to wait for 150s to come before I started.
SO today the cable from Hong Kong comes, and I'm eager to compare the quality to the internal mod, as I plug the VGA end
into my monitor I see SPARKS! I didn't get a picture either. When I pulled the cable out I got a small SHOCK from the RCA
audio plugs! I still wanted to see if the cable actually worked, so I plugged it into my Extron RGB 109xi, and a VGA cable
into the 'buffered local monitor out' going to my monitor.
The Extron indeed said 31H 60V and a picture was displayed, it looked identical to the internal VGA mod I did myself.
Whats going on in this cable? Is it dangerous? I've got a cheapo multimeter, what should I measure?
Is this cable dangerous?

Re: Is this cable dangerous?
I used to get tingles from a Blaze Dreamcast VGA box. Worked fine, just avoided touching the metal bits when it was powered on. You're supposed to have everything off when connecting cables anyway.
