1. I'd like to see Stage 5 in SDOJ by the end of the year and maybe get the 1CC next year. It's gotta be with the following setup:
- Version 1.5
- Laser
- Auto-bomb Off

2. Find more time to play shooters in general.

Favorite Achievements by Others of 2013:

• Get really far in Raiden DX Training

I CHALLENGE YOU
• To try a shmup subgenre that you haven't really explored before!

Which one was it?
It was DFK 360 mode. I still can't do it consistently though, since I still mess up a lot at 2-5. :/

Personal Favorite Achievements of 2013:
Clearing Deathsmiles, clearing IOS Mushihimesama

Goals for 2014:
Clear a non-trivial game. Explore more non-CAVE games.

Challenge to everyone else:
Only play shmups whilst facing away from the monitor, using a mirror to see what you're doing. For those playing on cabinets, control everything using your feet.
Hopefully whilst you're all doing that, I'll have time to improve ;^)

Personal Favourite Achievements of 2013: erm... I think the only one was BWRP Normal 1cc with Guard, which is pretty...
Personal Biggest Screw-ups of 2013: not playing much in the first place

Favourite Achievements by Others of 2013:
Zil's GB2 runs were quite a joy to watch.

Goals for 2014:
- Stop messing around and play more
- BWRP Normal 1cc no guard
- At least reaching Yuyuko consistently on PCB Normal
- Perhaps being able to do GB2 1-4 boss and reach 1-5 boss consistently is not asking much?

Personal Favourite Achievements of 2013:

2013 was the year that saw me jump back into this genre full force with the intention of getting legitimately good.

My first ever 1cc came in April with a true ending clear of Triggerheart Exelica. From that point on there was no turning back; I had gone full shmup.

I practiced the genre over a very wide range of games only to have my proudest achievement of 2013 near the end of the year: after an extremely epic no-miss run of Caladrius AC Arcade Mode, a Japanese guy who had been watching my run came up to me and applauded.

Personal Biggest Screw-ups of 2013:

・Every time I throw my Saturn controller at the TV playing Darius II

Favourite Achievements by Others of 2013:

・Spadgy defeating my high score in the Caladrius thread

Goals for 2014:

-All Clear!-

・Defeating Spadgy's high score in the Caladrius thread -clear-
・Taking the #1 spot in the Caladrius thread -not just the thread baby 8)-
・1cc-ing Darius II at Taito Hey! Akihabara -clear-
・Clearing the god damn Moai stage in Gradius 1 -clear-
・Finish writing ST Caladrius -clear-

Challenges to Other Players:

・Learn to clear Darius Gaiden without the autofire cheat! It's totally awesome, you won't regret it!

Personal Favourite Achievements of 2013:Pink Sweets Arrange (so fun), and DDP:DFK clear.

Personal Biggest Screw-ups of 2013: Not Clearing Futari Original with only seconds to go.

Favourite Achievements by Others of 2013: Kamui's discovery of the green airplanes that fly off screen for ~80k and her clears at stunfest.

Goals for 2014:Clear Futari original (almost there), Darius Gaiden without autofire, Ginga Force on Hard, Eschatos on Hard, Pink Sweets original clear with or without trick, SDOJ on normal (novice clear only  ). Clear Ibara, get more clears!

[OPTIONAL] CHALLENGES TO OTHER PLAYERS:
I want to see more girls playing.

EDIT: I did not read the posts before me but now that I have, I see we have some things in common here; 1. more girls 2. gaiden no auto 3. futari clear, what a coincidence!

Personal Favourite Achievements of 2013:
- Cracked the Shmups Forum top 20 for Futari BL Original Reco.
- Cleared Futari BL Maniac at #9.

Personal Biggest Screw-ups of 2013:
- Not playing regularly enough. (I tend to go really hard at it for a couple of months, then take a couple of months off. Probably not great for my consistency.)
- Lots of dumb avoidable deaths due to a hesitation to bomb. I've gotten a little better about it, but still have some work to do.

Favourite Achievements by Others of 2013:
- Gus's Ultra counterstop+clear.
- Stunfest.

Goals for 2014:
- Clear Futari God Mode.
- Play more regularly.
- Decide on a secondary game to focus on.
- Try to become able to talk about my personal progress and achievements without having to preface it with "I know I'm awful compared to most of you, but..." every time.

This year I would like to improve my high scores in shmup games even more. Also, I want to try to clear a Touhou game on Lunatic. I hear Perfect Cherry Blossom is one of the easier ones so I will try that.

Games I have in mind to try and improve my scores at:

- Dodonpachi.
- Mountain of Faith Normal mode
- Dodonpachi Daioujou Black Label

Also, 1cc more games!

2013 saw one of my favourite places on Earth close it’s doors; namely London’s shmup-friendly arcade Casino. That was horrible. Work also got me silly busy, and I didn’t meet up with enough players post Casino’s closure…

So my main shmup goal for 2014 is to keep the Casino Crew flame burning through meeting up with the regulars from the place in London’s gaming cafe LoadingBar, host shmup mini-meets and my house, and welcome new players to the fold. I also hope to meet yet more players across the globe when work takes me travelling, maybe meet a forum member or two from overseas if they are visiting London, and maybe get involved in a retro gaming event in the UK. Also, getting the UK’s northern shmuppers down (smraedis, Lordstar etc.) would be great (I was rubbish when they came down in 2013). I might even track down mr_m0nks (we know you're out there mate!). Possibly get overseas to Stunfest or something.

So lots of shmupping with people out in the real world.

Oh yeah, and get more 1CCs!

• get at least 50% of the Bakraid WR (~66m)

Personal Favourite Achievements of 2013:
• breaking 8 million with an all clear in XIIZeal and then a week later nailing an all clear in DeltaZeal with a score of 4.6 million (especially after thinking I'd never get past the final boss rush in a single credit).

Personal Goofups of 2013:
• not being able to improve on my older Ikaruga Normal Mode high score
• constantly dieing from stupid death after stupid death after stupid death in Exzeal

Goals for 2014:
• clear the first loop of Ketsui
• break 600 million in Mushi Futari 1.5 Maniac with Ab Parm.

Join us someday! The 'Casino Crew' (as the London shmuppers call ourselves) are by no means all high skilled players (there's a couple!), but we're a friendly bunch open to welcoming anyone along who wants to play shmups, talk shmups, and make awful jokes. Pop over to the London thread in the Shmupmeets area and join in the chat. We meet up all the time, and it's a great way to get better at shmups.

(No need to read all but the last few posts. Long story short, we used to meet regularly at London's shmup-freindly arcade Casino, then it closed, and now we meet various different places.)

Join us someday!

And the rest of you get to the Shmupmeets area of this forum and meet with your local players. Best part of the hobby! I've even got to make long, lingering physical contact with Skykid as a result of such efforts. What more could you want!?
