You can, just remove the 220 uF caps on the RGB lines on the NESRGB and then use an NTSC SNES/PAL GameCube SCART cable.keropi wrote:it would be very nice if we could use the existing port...

Official Cube cable has voltage pull up in the end doesn't it?
Dangerously expensive though.

I think Tim said that he planned to make the 12V pump circuit available separately, you can try contacting him about it.keropi wrote:^ yep , I've seen the tutorial pics previously on the thread, but one of the reasons we got viletim's cable was the 5-12v pump for 4:3 automatic aspect ration... ocd? perhaps

Re: NESRGB board available now
^ yeah, I was the one that initialy asked on the pump thingie and Tim said he will sell them at some point

Re: NESRGB board available now
Why not make your own 12V pump? It's a pretty simple thing to do as it has no digital logic or any other such complex requirements.
Re: NESRGB board available now
Lol, I literally have been refreshing the ordersite every hour from last friday on. Even at nights every few hours! Yes, you can laugh at me, but I was that afraid to miss the boat again. And more then once I thought: 'you'll see, it will lauch during night, when Europe is at sleep and the Americano's are awake, sitting behind their PC's, ordering'. And yes, I checked tonight at 2.30 AM, Nothing. Then again at 8.30 AM, Holy Macaroni !!!! It's on!!!! I jumped out of bed, ran to the PC, excited, and ordered! I know now after a bunch of Americano'sviletim wrote:Thanks everybody!
It was a bug relating to that line - I got several emails about it. I fixed it by about order #30. Fortunately most of the orders up till that point were from Americans .......cr4zymanz0r wrote:Me too, but it cut the last digit of my zip code off on the order. Another friend said it omitted his zip code entirely. I emailed Tim just incase it's a minor bug.

My order was number 61, after about 6 hours of shop-life. Wow, Tim must be a happy man

@Tim, will you also place your other stuff in the shop, like the scart-to-jamma adapters?
Re: NESRGB board available now
I'd recommend getting a prefab cable from Retro Gaming Cables. If you send them an email they can make a cable that is compatible with the NESRGB out of the box, no modifications needed.keropi wrote:A friend placed my order along with his![]()
We both have AV famicoms, is there a place or maybe an ebay cable we can harvest the male connector and transplant it to viletim's scart cable? it would be very nice if we could use the existing port...
Re: NESRGB board available now
Thanks for the replies but we already ordered Tim's cables without a 2nd thought
My question was - and still is - where to get a couple of connectors so we could use the existing video ports and don't drill another hole at the AV famicoms. It's not a question of where to get cables or how to make a 12v pump atm...
Sorry if I (apparently) wasn't clear with this at the first place...

Re: NESRGB board available now
You can maybe ask one of the people that make handmade SNES scart cables where they get the connectors. I think the premade composite ones do not have all the pins and not sure how easy it would be to repin one.keropi wrote:Thanks for the replies but we already ordered Tim's cables without a 2nd thought![]()

It would probably be easier to just ask Tim to cancel the cable from your order and order an SNES RGB scart cord that is already made.
Or if you really need the scart end from Tim's cable, you will probably have to buy an SNES RGB cable, cut both cables in half, and connect the SNES multi-out half to the Scart end half on Tim's cable. I have never seen any of the nintendo multi out male (or female) for sale. The people making the SNES RGB cables have to be getting them from somewhere though.

Re: NESRGB board available now
i ordered this 8 pin Mini-Din (male both ends) to go from standard NESRGB straight into the XRGB-mini, would that work?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/8-Pin-mini-di ... 1e7d77bb54
Or would i need to mod the cable in anyway?

ccovell wrote:Speaking of DIN connectors and stuff, here's a recommended pin connection for the 8-pin DIN that's already in the TWIN Famicom. For those that don't want to desolder the DIN connector, you can keep it in there, cut board traces, and use a Neo-Geo RGB cable to connect it to your display:
Also, for passing the enhanced/original video through the standard RCA jack, you can wire up the palette/cutoff switch like this:Code: Select all
Bottom of Twin Famicom RF DIN connector: 3 2 1 o o o 5 4 o o 7 8 6 o o o Pins 5 and 8 are already marked on the PCB. Pin connection instructions: 1 - to AUD 2 - to GND 5 - Cut PCB trace, then wire to Green 6 - Cut multiple traces, then wire to Red 7 - Cut, then to Sync 8 - Cut, then to Blue
Code: Select all
Switch for Palette Type / Video passthrough __ 1--| |--V 2--| |--V GND--| |----> to Video Out | | 3--| |--V x--| |--PPUV --
Question regarding the Twin's DIN connector, I noticed there's no +5V listed. Will that still work?
Re: NESRGB board available now
You could always wire 5V to one of the unused pins.eightbitminiboss wrote:Question regarding the Twin's DIN connector, I noticed there's no +5V listed. Will that still work?

Figured as much, I was going to wire it to pin 4 to match the Neo Geo SCART cable I ordered. Thanks!ApolloBoy wrote:You could always wire 5V to one of the unused pins.eightbitminiboss wrote:Question regarding the Twin's DIN connector, I noticed there's no +5V listed. Will that still work?
Re: NESRGB board available now
That should work, however, the kit's instructions tell you to wire the audio to a 1/8" headphone jack, and leave the audio off of the mini-din connector. So you will need to make sure that you wire up the audio to the two unused pins on the mini-din connector instead. Keep in mind, having the audio and video in one cable can cause a buzzing sound as the signals interfere.Jeppen wrote:i ordered this 8 pin Mini-Din (male both ends) to go from standard NESRGB straight into the XRGB-mini, would that work?

I've heard that adding the expansion sounds on this board can cause some interference. Any word on that?

Great thanks! I will keep the audio separate from the mini-din, possibly via a stereo mod with a pot for stereo/mono mix and out via RCA jacks though

Re: NESRGB board available now
Another minor setback. Turns out my Twin Famicom doesn't have a fully pinned DIN connector (ApolloBoy mentioned this a while back) and unlike ccovell's, the board does not have the marked 5 and 8 pins on the PCB. Guess they had revisions of the power boards? This is on a AN-505-BK. I already have the PCB pins figured out, just need to buy a new connector and swap it out and cut the traces as ccovell listed. Wasn't my original plan, but thems the breaks.

Hope this helps out other Twin Famicom owners looking to mod theirs.

Has anyone had theirs ship yet? Mine still says "Payment Received"
Yes, I'm really eager and impatient, haha

Re: NESRGB board available now
Not yet, I'd imagine Tim's been swamped with orders lately. My new Twin Fami doesn't arrive for a couple of weeks so having the NESRGB come at the same time would be great for me.
Re: NESRGB board available now
I think he shipped last time about 2 weeks after orders were placed. May be the same this time also.darcagn wrote:Has anyone had theirs ship yet? Mine still says "Payment Received"

Re: NESRGB board available now
Hey, I've ordered the RGB Kit within the new e-shop from Tim and I've selected the AV Famicom 2 as the model I'm going to use.
Do I still need to buy the adapter board? Or it will fit just fine in the system?

Re: NESRGB board available now
The selection should have tacked on another 6 Australian bucks for the board to be included with your order (Should be $96 AUD before shipping). You need the adapter board to be able to close the system after modding as it will sit in the way of the top cover when you try to close it without it.fandangos wrote:Hey, I've ordered the RGB Kit within the new e-shop from Tim and I've selected the AV Famicom 2 as the model I'm going to use.

I need to find another official SNES scart cable to use with it. The 3 I own are in use with my SNES, N64 and GameCube.

Re: NESRGB board available now
I finished installing my NESRGB in my front-loader recently. I did a few things a little differently though. I stole the idea shown a few pages ago of removing the RF output and channel switch and putting a D-SUB output in its place, but I fastened it to the metal shielding on the sub board rather than the plastic case itself. This makes maintenance a bit easier, as the connector stays with the sub board rather than being tethered to the case. I also wired the composite output jack to the composite video encoded from RGB, so that both the RGB and composite output will be active all of the time (I didn't include a palette switch, I just selected the standard palette).

I have one question about the NESRGB though. On Mega Man 3 there is a graphical glitch with a flashing horizontal line of garbage visible on the right side of the screen, partway down from the top. This can be seen on the level select screen and the pause menu. This is only in Mega Man 3 though, not 1 or 2, and I haven't seen any problems in any other games. I can't remember if it was like that before modding. Is anyone else seeing this? I'm just wondering if it could be a problem with my installation, or if everyone using the NESRGB is seeing this, or if it is just a problem with the game and it's like that whether using the NESRGB or not.

Are you talking about the little flickering line on the boss select screen (the bottom right portrait iirc)? If so, that is normal behavior for the game.
