TN-V 7 released. NoDRM engine added which allows you to play DLCs (without nploader) and some additional stuff including the Valkyria Chronicles 3 translation. Some homebrew compatibility fixes and plugin management from the VSH menu which if you use plugins is really nice.
Also it improves system stability. I'm sure there's a joke to be made here

Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
Well shame on me for complaining about having to boot into a crappy exploit game to reach the PSP XMB: I just saw the processes for three different exploit games, two of which are Monster Hunter, and I can honestly say executing such a long process every time would drive me nuts.
Megamix might be a piece of crap but all you do is start it up, hit X twice and it's already done!

This is more of a PSP question: has anyone played YS Ark of Napishtim on PSP? Is it really as "bad" as people say it is? Should I consider playing it, or skip it entirely?

Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
I didn't find the performance too bad. With the CPU set to max speed and loading it from memory stick rather than UMD it's pretty tolerable.
The tiny font was eye torture though.
You definitely should play it though, if you can't deal with the PSP version it's also available for PC and PS2.

Should be getting that, along with FF IV and Space Invaders in the next few days. Paid £20 incl P&P. But then started suffering from buyers remorse. Oh well, I can always sell the games on again for the same amount, if not more.ZellSF wrote:I didn't find the performance too bad. It's a bad port. Even with ZellSF's CPU sugestion, it doesn't give off the "good" feeling that the other Ys games give.replayme wrote:This is more of a PSP question: has anyone played YS Ark of Napishtim on PSP? Ah well, it's settled then. I'll be keeping FF4 and selling off Ys and Space Invaders. Should be able to sell those alone for £20+, which means that I'll be getting FF4 for free.

^ This. Played it a bit and finally tested the PC version last week and Konami bodged the port. The graphical cuts and screen cropping are painful.soprano1 wrote:It's a bad port. Why start with Ys VI though?
I adored Ys I & II, and they're so short. My play time for each was 5:40 and 8:20. I recommend them thoroughly.
I'm trying to stay as chronological as possible and I'm halfway through Felghana now and it's an absolute blast from the word go - so glad I stumbled on (and asked about) this series.
My only issue is Napishtim seems superb, but the PC isn't mine, so I'll need to so some laptop borrowing if I want to play it through. The PSP version simply isn't good enough.

Well obviously the PC version is much much better (this holds true for all Falcom games), but the PSP port is still very playable from a performance point.Skykid wrote:^ This. Not playable to me though since I can't deal with that awful, terrible font it uses.

I thought that one of the Atelier games was getting localized for Vita, but now I don't see any evidence of that. Is there anything jrpg (broadly construed) forthcoming that I'm overlooking? Got a bit of Amazon monies and was looking to preorder in support of lower-profile games like the awesome curry game that BulletMagnet brought to my attention. It seems like the only recent releases are the Ys and curry games, both of which I have.

I found the jerky framerate of Napishtim's PSP port to be an absolute killer; the PS2 version has its own annoyances, but it's much more playable IMO.ZellSF wrote:Well obviously the PC version is much much better (this holds true for all Falcom games), but the PSP port is still very playable from a performance point.

The Ys series peaked my interest over a year ago, but even now, I still haven't played an entry yet. I actually bought Felghana on PC about a year ago (22/12/12). It was £2.49 back then...
Edit:
Ys 1 and 2 is actually £5.99 in the Steam sale, but I'd rather buy it for my Vita - if only because then it'll be portable.

Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
Thanks, guys! Looks like the PS3 is still getting some rpg love going into next year. Glad to see it, even if I prefer to play that sort of game on my handhelds.
Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
Of the announced PS3 games, Persona 5 and Drakengard 3 peak my interest.
On Vita however, and in the UK, it's Ys Celceta and FF X/X-2. Hyper Light Drifter is also a game that interests me greatly. It's coming out mid 2014 (apparently), and you can pre-order it at the link below. I'd do the same, but I need that $15 at present.
http://www.heart-machine.com/
Edit: It's safe to say that the Vita is going to get a lot of (RPG) love from me in 2014. And as soon as I complete FF: Crisis Core on PSP, and Gravity Rush on Vita, I'm going to be delving into Persona 4. Followed by either:
Ys 1/2
Ys Felghana
Ys Celceta
Trails in the Sky (with its sequel is also coming out soon)
Grandia
Lunar
FF7
FF8
FF X/X-2
Hyper Light Drifter
There is just so much good stuff already out there. And more good stuff to follow. And as much as I've already mentioned some of the games, I haven't even considered other RPG goodness already available via PSN (such as Alundra, Paraside Eve, Xenogears etc).

I'd highly recommend experiencing Ys I & II on your Vita. After finishing it I tried it out on PCE, and while the charm is most definitely there (certainly playable) the beauty of Complete/Chronicles can't be overstated. Plus ZellSF was spot on regarding the updated controls, it improves everything considerably. The PSP release also has really nice updated character portraits and 3 soundtracks! I tried them all in different dungeons (they're long enough to give them all some airtime) but I think the Complete (original Windows arrangement from 2001) is my overall favourite - just made Koshiro's tunes shine. The updated Chronicles soundtrack is a little too new for the visuals imo.
If you have Felghana what you waiting for? Actually, I'd recommend starting at the start, but Felghana is such a riot. Feels more like an action arcade game with marginal RPG overtones. Once you kill all the voice acting it's quite magnificent.
Also, STILL playing Gravity Rush? After so long? Give it up already, fun games await.

I was playing Homefront on my 360, but after completing the campaign, am now playing MGS Revengeance on my PS3. The next game I am going to play on console (once I have completed Revengeance) will be either Brothers, Cod Blops, or Nier.Skykid wrote: Also, STILL playing Gravity Rush? After so long? Regarding handhelds, I've just been spending a lot of time with my PSP. I've been going through a phase where I've been picking up a lot of PSP games on the cheap, as already mentioned on this forum - although I have put a few up on sale since. I was playing PSN downloads Castlevania SoTN and FF7, but rediscovered Einhander (via CFW) and have been spending a lot of time with that. I then came back to FF Crisis Core recently so as to finish it.
I recently checked out GTA Liberty City Stories for about 30 minutes (as it was free via PS+) on Vita, but aside from that, I haven't really picked up my Vita, and have certainly not touched my 3DS in a while. You'll have to excuse my lack of 3D Land playing because of this.
Once I complete FF: Crisis Core, I will finish Gravity Rush, and then look at what I can play next on my handhelds.

To atone you need to pick it up and play for two straight hours without a break. By that point you'll be hopelessly hooked and the rest will be history.

I think I can manage that. I have a day off on Tuesday and Wednesday. And although I hope to finish Revengeance on Tuesday, will hope to allocate the necessary two hours afterwards.

It's perfectly fine if you don't play off the UMD. I've been playing Napishtim Expanded Edition on Vita(about halfway through the game now) and whatever minor issues exist haven't detracted from the experience whatsoever. The load times between areas are 1-2 seconds long tops. The framerate can be a bit jerky at times, but never to the point where it would render the game unplayable. The character portraits are of lower resolution than in Felghana, but again - that's hardly something I would call off-putting.soprano1 wrote:It's a bad port. Just now bought "The Sex". Grabbed a "The Walking Dead" PS Vita bundle off Amazon for $190 shipped, including a voucher for the game and a (rather small) 4GB memory card. Still, it was all bought with Amazon Gift Card credit, so there's no hit to my actual wallet. I've bought it more to somewhat honor the fact that the PSP has been nothing shy of stellar to me, and the hardware looks terrific, even if the available software doesn't look all that appealing.
Really hope the screen is better than what I've seen in the kiosks and such at Target and wherever else.
Jumped in for under $200 to start. Hope it's worth it.

Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
Yeah, Ys 6 on PSP is ugly as sin [blurry textures, super smeary looking character sprites, depressing framerate] and I kind of didn't feel like playing it at all after a while. Ran from Memory Stick, clockspeed at 333. If I do get around to playing this through, it'll be on PS2.
Until my PSP started acting up just now, I was having good fun with Ys I. Started playing it because I was really enjoying Ys 7 and other than getting utterly lost/confused at times [and just refusing to look things up, haha], it's a pretty delightful experience. Dunno why anyone would say to avoid it, unless they hate fun.
Probably about as confusing as Zelda 1 [maybe even less, especially since you have proper dialogue for hints, not 8-bit era NPC-speak], and I've never heard anyone say to shy away from that game.
On the Vita side of things, if I get a Vita 2000 from Japan, I can set the system to English and use US PSN and all that, no issues? I really do want to get a Vita soon [even if all I'll probably buy for now are Project Diva f [it's not $70 anymore!] and Ys: Memories of Celceta].
@Skykid:
Mario 3D Land is probably my favorite 3D Mario -- it represents what I've expected a 3D Mario to be. It's still got too many problems for my taste -- a handful of hideously awkward "you better have 3D on" jumps/camera positioning at times and a few depressingly annoying forced scrolling stages that don't seem to work well [thankfully few].

Ys I & II are loads of fun and plenty charming, and I lamented the passing of the bump system the minute it was over. Complete/Chronicles is beautiful, so I wouldn't be able to understand any visual/audio complaints.
Game is something else. I agree there's an adjustment period to the 3D depth perception in certain sections - but I seem to remember there's an option to switch angles or 3D depth that helps hugely. It's like riding a bike after a while. I found some of the forced-scrolling stages were some of the best owing to their intensity... Apart from that one near the end of the game's second leg where evil Mario chases you to death. Ecstasy and agony in equal measure.null1024 wrote: @Skykid:

Ended up buying Ys 1/2 in the Flash Steam Sale for £2.99, so will be playing 1+2+Felghana on PC. That leaves Celceta which I will experience on Vita.
In other news, I bought Rayman Legends on Vita today for £15.
Edit: picked up Ys Origins in the sale too - £3.24. So I now have Ys Origins+1+2+Felghana to get through on PC. All for less then £10.
Edit x 2: emailed to cancel my Rayman Legends order as I've bought too much other stuff on PC today.

I got Super Mario 3D Land as a gift for Xmas 2012, still haven't given it much time yet, but you've convinced me I really ought to. I received Link Between Worlds this Xmas, and so I am currently going through OoT 3D - my first time through any Zelda game post-SFC LTTP. I'm wondering if I should go through my entire Zelda backlog chronologically, but it's about 8 or 9 games at this point so quite a commitment.
Since this is a Vita thread, I have Ys Celceta but no Vita. Has there been a verdict on whether 1000 or 2000 is better?
Re: The PS Vita Thread - Remote Play for all PS4 Games
Here's the DF verdict: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digit ... 000-review
In brief: form factor of 2000 is better, but 1000 has the better screen.
