NES Front Loader + NESRGB + NES EverDrive. Famicom Expanded

Post by lettuce »

Can you mod the front loader NES system for expanded Famicom audio without the Famciom2NES adapter???

I have a front loader NES and a NES Everdrive flash cart and have recently installed Tim's NESRGB mod, with this type of set up you can run a wire (with 22k resister) from PIN 9 on the expansion socket to 2 resistors on the NESRGB board, but im not sure if the Famicom2NES adapter (with the jumper wire) is needed to get the extra audio mod to work, does anyone know for sure?

Guide form Skips here, http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... &start=818

Obviously i dont have the Famicom2nes adapter as im using a front loading NTSC NES console and a NES Everdriver cart which you can load famicom games onto which have the expanded audio channel, hence my question about the removal of the famicom2nes adapter in the mod process!

No, you don't need to use a Famicom Everdrive + Famicom2NES adapter.

On a standard NES, you just need to connect expansion slot pin 3 to pin 9 with a 47K resistor to enable expansion audio through the PowerPak or Everdrive-N8 (NES model).

The procedure is different if you have the NESRGB, unfortunately I do not know that procedure offhand but you still will not need to mess with any Famicom stuff--you just need the Everdrive-N8 (or PowerPak) cartridge.

Thanks for the reply. I have been told that you connect pin 9 of the expansion port to the 2 resistors of the NESRGB, which i have done. But im not getting the extra audio channels...or not that i can tell. Is there a famicom rom that just uses the expanded audio?

Not that I know of--I would recommend using the Japanese Zelda FDS image and compare to this audio recording. Although the title screen music will only play for a short time, as the Everdrive will automatically switch the image to side B after a few seconds, which brings you to the character selection screen.
