To clarify only PAL optimized games run too fast when played on an NTSC machine.

What the NES concerned very few games were PAL optimized in terms of gameplay, but many more had just their music PAL optimized because that was easy to do.

For an example, I have a PAL copy of Power Blade and played it on my NTSC Famicom Titler. The gameplay ran perfectly normal but the music was sped up, which didn't bother me because it still sounded pretty good.

Hi Viletim, how many boards do you expect to be producing in the second batch and are there any upgrades in this version?

Love your work!

As I said earlier, Tim said that the second batch will be identical to the first.

I've now done 3 systems with the NESRGB mod, so will now offer my services to anyone in the UK who wants the mod done. PM me for details.

Would be good just seeing one of your handiworks connected to a monitor so people can see it works for real :)

Last week I mailed Rob from Retro Gaming Cables to ask if they could wire up Multi-AV SCART cables to NESRGB spec (5->12v step up circuit, no capacitors on R/G/B), and he wrote back today:
Thank you for your enquiry. Sorry for the delay in responding.

We can definitely wire these cables for your specifications. We can do this for the same price as the normal RGB SCART.

Best regards
robert
I'll be ordering one or two for myself when the third batch (the one with the Famicom audio circuit) of NESRGB boards becomes available. If you want one, shoot them an email.

Can anyone confirm if this board has any issues with an Everdrive?

I don't think that there should be any. It will take a while until I can make sure, since my AV Fami is still on its way to get modded.
So if that mystery hasn't been solved by then, I'll do a thorough check.

The Everdrive works fine, though in the first ~1 sec. of power-up, the ED doesn't initialize the PPU (and perhaps draws quite a bit of current) so the initial image you see is a snowy & noisy dark grey screen. A little frightening but, again, improperly inserted Famicom games show the same effect on the NESRGB in my system.

That's exactly what i wanted to hear :) As it seems this version has been performing great on people's systems.

Has anyone else tried installing theirs in a Twin Fami? I plan on picking up a Twin Fami soon and now I'm wondering whether or not to stick with installing an NESRGB in my AV Fami or the Twin. I suppose with the Twin I could remotely wire up a 40-pin socket to where the PPU was and then stick the NESRGB there.

I've already seen it, I was just wondering what other ideas people have come up with for Twin Fami installs.

This text was added to the NESRGB page:
*** I am in the process of setting up a propper shopping cart system. It is talking a bit longer than expected - please bear with me. Should be finished tomorrow. 28/12/13
Sounds like more may be for sale tomorrow. I'll be refreshing a lot; hopefully I don't regret sharing this with you guys. :P

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but it feels like the arrival of Tim's next batch will be the proverbial "waking up on Christmas morning" for all of us.

.... and buying quantity is limited to one piece per buyer.

Indeed, Tim did send an e-mail that these boards would be available from 28-12 again. I have been refreshing the order webpage like crazy since then (actually, since 27-12 afternoon because Australian time zone is about 10 hours earlier than my time). Heck, I even placed an e-mail order yesterday because the webpage kept saying 'sold out' (they were avaialble after all from 28-12 and there is a possibility mentioned for non-paypal orders) . This was before his addition of the message referring to a new shopping system. No response though. :?: :?

I could maybe see a person reasonably ordering 2, but hopefully nobody decides to horde and gouge on ebay. I really hope that no flipper types have latched on to this since some of them have absolutely no shame at all. With the absolutely ludicrous prices of PC10 PPUs on ebay (seriously, you can get a complete, partially populated PC10 cab for maybe twice the price of what some try to sell just the PPU for), I wouldn't put it past some of them to buy NESRGBs in bulk and try to resell them for a few hundred a pop.

Obviously there are plenty that have already modded their NES consoles with a Playchoice 10 PPU, but hopefully some would consider Tim's mod and find a way to cycle the PC10 PPU back out into the arcade community. Granted, those users would lose money.

When the first batch was released, I didn't have much spending money and I didn't realize they would sell out. I have an RGB PPU NES anyway, but I wanted to use this board instead for its better palette and I want to put the RGB PPU back into its PlayChoice 10 mobo and send it back into the wild to roam the land and know its freedom.

But I didn't know there was any place to sign up if I am interested in purchasing?

I emailed him directly and was put on the mailing list. Beyond that and the associated notification email, I don't think he accepted any form of preorder.

Seeing as the mini-din 8 is wired to match the XRGB-mini input, would i need the scart cable, or is that more for people with a different solution than the XRGB-mini?

I'll be doing that. I don't really care about loosing money, since I modified the system myself and I didn't pay overprice for the PPU. Tim's mod is a much better choice than the Playchoice PPU anyway since it uses the correct color palette.
Unfortunately I don't have the original PPU from my NES anymore, so I either have to buy another US NES or hold off and wait for the Universal PPU project instead.
