Xmas on the Tube

Post by GaijinPunch »

What are the must-watch videos? If you hate Xmas, take it somewhere else. Not everyone considers it a religious holiday, and you don't have to one-up everyone by what a secular hipster you are. Besides, this is about high caliber film/TV with an Xmas theme. Not about the holiday itself.

I'm so glad that everyone here is good enough to have mentioned Die Hard already. It's really the perfect Christmas movie.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

What, you can't watch Die Hard on Blu Ray.

VHS for full nostalgia.

I break out a box of VHS tapes containing Christmas specials I recorded off TV back in 80's. It even has the old commercials. It's a tradition for me.

Muppets Christmas Carol
Scrooged
Die Hard

That's the Christmas trifecta for me. I also find this board's lack of Muppets love disturbing.

American Dad - "For Whom the Sleigh Bells Toll" and "Rapture's Delight"
The Junky's Christmas

Edit: I almost forgot Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas. Total classic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJ3cWWNXBHg

Muppet Xmas on Youtube sounds like a good thing to loop while I work tomorrow. Japanese Xmas = steaming turd. You've never seen so many boats missed in your life.

Honestly, I enjoy watching with my wife the sappy holiday movies this time of year on channels like Hallmark and Lifetime, especially when the lead female character is hot. They're pretty much all the same, so no particular titles come to mind.

I tried to explain this movie to an Aussie last night. I don't think it had quite the cultural impact there as it did here.

Oh, and this guy officially won Halloween.

Wow, so wrong on many levels...

Yes. And in the lead up to Christmas, don't forget Thankskilling. It's painfully bad, but kind of entertaining at the same time.

I hadn't been able to really appreciate it for a long time, but George C. Scott's version of "A Christmas Carol" is a classic.

Gotta see Scrooged still.

I saw Scrooged a few weeks ago. It has some good parts, but by the end it devolves into complete nonsense.

I wound up watching Corbucci's The Great Silence. Not necessarily a Christmas movie, but it's set in the snowy mountains with an extremely bleak tone. Perfect Christmas.
