"SELFIE" A study on the human coping mechanism

Post by railslave »

Its an interactive story im making/writing , called "Selfie" (as in the pictures)
Its just a concept atm.

You take these pictures to see whos behind you as your character cannot move; crippled by fear all you can do is look up and down.

Behind you is a closet, wherein lives your "starman". How do you know ??? you have a mirror aimed right at it

Its gotten to the point where im too freaked out to test it myself.

You cannot die, but you must endure the absolute terror for 7 days, then you will get to see the selifes you have been taking (only 3 days on here) . And solve the mystery of whats actualy going on.
In a state of shock your character convinces her self of all these crazy theories, to help her cope.

Its sort of driven by her crazy reasoning.

any way, get your HEADPHONES on and try it (and keep checking the diary , no matter whats happening)

**beware its very rough and "experimental" ** though i dunno, adds to it a bit..

Nice headphone-breaking screamer.

Basically some long forgotten woman is a victim of a 7 day home invasion. Part of her coping mechanism (due to massive trauma inflicted by some nasty stuff ) is to reimagine it as something like this

but in a completely domestic setting...

She regresses to that childhood fear of the man in the closet . the reality is ALOT worse

You go along for the horrible ride(on rails completely) .

it all hinges on the writing and sound design, of which its all place holder. Not going to be easy ..at all, obviously, but i dunno, the ideas there
Itl be unity unity when its done.
This is just the idea

I got bored on day 3 and quit. I'd be really interested to find out what this thing actually is, but I'm not sitting through all this.
And the shaking seems a bit too much for my taste, I can hardly read the scribbled notes.

Come on, don't be a dick.

railslave, interesting concept, just needs some ironing out. 7 days might be a bit much if you're struggling to add variety in there - I was under the impression I would need to decipher the notes and find something else to do. I noticed the stars were moving and I needed to switch off the tape deck, but it always ends with the cupboard zoom?

The shaking is a little wild, but I suppose that's to add some kind of marginal difficulty in holding the pencil on the mirror. I don't know if the scribbles on the notepad are intentionally mis-spelt / missing grammar etc, but I'd change 'Belive' to 'Believe' (etc) just for the sake of it not seeming like the author's failing.

Oh, and the screaming is a bit nutty (intentionally, I assume) but I probably wouldn't put it in there until after a few days, just to keep things ticking over.

Keep being creative anyway, these things only ever improve with practice. ;)

***********new version, no headphone destroying http://www.mediafire.com/download/e2mp1 ... ealpha.zip ******************

Yeah, i was afraid it wasn't freaky enough without the screaming, but tbh i couldnt make something more disturbed if i tried. maybe ill try it with something "nice" instead

The theme/concept im sort of going for is when something is so traumatic (like a 7 day home invasion) actually becomes so routine that its normal life. But that can never be normal :P

The endings just "wrong" :P , when you finally get to see the reality through one of your selfies.

Id recently played gone home , and it inspired me, though i thought it descended into a bit of a chick flick...
my reaction Image

Its going to be ONE HELL OF A CHALLENGE, but it SHOULD all hinge on the writing. Not jumpscares.
The radios not really anything to do with it, you take a "selfie" (just you and your star man) then it goes to the next day, same time .

I might try code something of a reality filter , so it starts in this disney "OMG I HAVE A BF!!!!, HE LIVES IN MY CLOSET" sort of place but as the days go on the reality seeps through

I liked the new version much better and actually played it as far as I could.
Jump scares are just annoying, so I think it's better off without them.
You still could have some sort of soul draining noise, like distant whimpering with distortion and white noise or something like that.
Just don't make it jump up too much in volume.

Again, just my opinion, not trying to tell you how to do stuff.

The proper mechanics are in :D

You need a combo of three things, the right diary entry, the right music and the right focus on something to progress :D

expect much weirdness

I understand that it didn't bother you, after reading about it from my post and turning your volume down. He is the dick for doing it, just go around and ask your wife and kids what they think of screamers in horror movies/games/anything. Seriously, do it and post results

Thought id keep you updated on this .. It fast spiraling into a Cronenberg/Lynchesque Oculus nightmare

The main plot device
Image
All story, clues ect...(fly swatting combo meter ?) are relayed through this in glorious teletext.

A video of some of our fly tech http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dr6K-Ui12UA

Dev little video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiOF76AUfLU

This is going to be insane basicly :D. An unrivaled VR experience

Your a Christian missionary that is the victim of a violent home invasion. Due to the extreme trauma of the state you wake up in You retreat into childhood fantasies of some lost "Starman" in your closet; that's using your female body (amniotic fluid) to amplify messages back home. All this is told through the television, and the medium of teletext by this guy http://www.digitalartsonline.co.uk/news ... xt-artist/ .

Stand out moment, the dramatic re-enactment/ hallucination of the "Starman's" escape from his home world, by the flies in the room :|

Of course, non of this is real, the realty is alot more horrendous.

This all takes place in the Oculus rift, while you are surrounded by flies and very strange stuff, flies can even land on your player camera for extra freak outs. You can kill them, but then you have to deal with a table full of flies.

There will be a kickstarter soon... and possibly some doctors knocking.
