Go for vanilla Batsugun clear, far more challenging first loop there.

That's actually my next goal (probably not going to happen until at least after I get home from Thanksgiving)

Re: I DID IT
Yay, I got a 1cc to report. And I haven't done one of these in ages. My last & only for this genre were pussy easy SNES Gradius III & NES Gradius II, which I actually no missed... Maybe NES Life Force too? But this time I got a more respectable shooter 1cc'ed. Make that no miss too. Darius 1 Arcade - Japan version. I knew once I goten over the major hurdle of how to beat Fatty Gluton with the Lazer consistently & then being able to have the Wave as early as level 5 that the rest of the game would be pretty much a cake walk with some minor adjusting in the way. And I was right. All that trouble to get that Wave weapon so early was so worth it.
When I made it to the Fatty Gluton stage (I did all upper route, so stage "G"), I almost started all over cause I missed two red powerups in a row. The one powerup type I don't want to miss. But I figured I might get at least get in some more Fatty Gluton practice if anything. Course I beat him without dieing, cause I was getting real good at doing this now, and well, by the time I got to Great Thing I was starting to feel real sweaty. And this worried me cause I don't like playing with sweaty hands. And me noticing I was nervous made my heart beat loud enough to hear it too. I was like great. I'm gonna choke. What BS. But no, that freakin Gold shield can take quite a beating, lol. Final socre was 3606180. I'm sure it's shit cause I didn't consider score at all. But should get in the habbit of writing it down to help get into scoring faster.
One more thing. This game is freaking amazing. And not at all what I first thought it would be like (basically what most casual first opinions on this game is. Which is pretty bad, lol, and sad
). But man, I ended up putting all the other Darius games aside for this. Yesturday I played this game for at least 10-12 hours straight non-stop almost. Tried to give it a break with other, but it wouldn't work. And before this, I was finally getting into the Thunderforce series (another series I had trouble getting into), thanks to Gate of Thunder, the Thunderforce clone extrodinare. But I even put these games away for Darius series. Not to mention I haven't 1cc'ed a game in ages too, and yeah. This game is so awesome & so underrated. One of my all time fave no. Everyone should go play it now until 1cc'ed to see it for themselves. And give it some time. It'll happen. Don't give up right away until it does.
And yeah, I didn't mean to say topic starter guy was rude. Just that there are so many things out there to say that can't quite be put in simple words without offense, and I seem to be the king at this. But I can't help it if it's true & I have to get it out there. I'm just weird like that. But my intentions are always good, so I never worry to much about it.

Cool, thanks for the help clearing this topic title. So this is what's it about? Pretty cool, and even more reason for it to have a more clear title if it turned into such an important topic.spadgy wrote:*snip*

^ congratulations and great work! I don't think original Darius is underrated, it's recognised in Japan as a benchmark classic. It's just folks visiting it retrospectively who don't understand how it works/is paced who get turned off before they get to the clicking point.

Looped Metroid Prime Pinball for the first time! Owned it for several years, haven't played it in several months, never reached Impact Crater before. Scored 15 million and change which is double my previous best.

So Japan recognizes it as a benchmark. Wow. This cheers me up. Not only do the Japanese know how to make decent to excellent shmups, but they're also capable of understanding which is great or not. Guess this also contributes to them being able to make great shmups? While us Westerners couldn't make or spot a good shmup if our lives depended on it (whenever I play a Euroshmup, I just don't get how can they get things so wrong? Like they totally failed game making 101 class).Skykid wrote:^ congratulations and great work! I don't think original Darius is underrated, it's recognised in Japan as a benchmark classic. You know that HG101 article on this series? I think that's how most westerners view the Darius series. That Kurt writer is also a perfect example of what casual gamers like and dislike. Check it out! It's a mad, mad world out there!
But yeah, getting to that clicking point in videogames is really a vital & tought part to get to (why journalists are always wrong, cause they got too many games to review to play any of them properly or even play them), why I mostly never write off most games until I really put in the time into them... except, well, you know, them Euroshmups.

I just no-missed the first loop of R-Type 2!!
I wanted to do one "signature" 1CC this year and I think this was it. R-Type 2 is a difficult game no matter how you slice it. Even once you know the stage layouts inside and out it's still really hard to string everything together and make no mistakes. There are no bombs to help you out here, and dying means loosing all your power-ups, so good luck recovering. Despite all that I really like the R-Type series. The stage layouts are really in a class of their own. I'd say this one took about 25-30 hours of practice.
For what it's worth I'll be uploading a video of it tonight and hopefully it should be up by the end of the day. I'll post a link once it's uploaded.

2-ALL'd Hishouzame tonight, made it to 3-4 (area 270). So stoked that I finally broke that 2-ALL barrier.

Happily just 1CC'd Mushihime-sama Futari 1.5 Ultra on novice. Now pushing for arcade original, so far breaking through to stage 4.
Without the auto bombs, the precision levels is definitely boot camp.

Nice! Stage 3 is the wall for most people, so if you can make it through there, you should be hitting the final stage in no time.Sinistar's visions wrote:Happily just 1CC'd Mushihime-sama Futari 1.5 Ultra on novice. Now pushing for arcade original, so far breaking through to stage 4.

Thank you.
Yes, stage 3 is no joke.
I sought out this game via the inspiration of the STG weekly episode 8# with GUS who explained this game as his "waifu". Quite hilarious.

Yeeeeeeaaaah! Bloody finally!!! At last I've finally 1cc espgaluda, after what seems like an age of playing perfectly until the final boss and then completely screwing it up by losing all my lives in quick succession. I've been at this stage for ages then having long breaks from it,then trying again...but today,I did it! I can put this to bed and move on.
I know people find this really easy,so they say,but that final boss is a pain in the tits,it's so drawn out! Up yours espgaluda! I win!

Did both of these today. The 27B run on the leaderboard is pretty sloppy because I was still experimenting with strategies in the first 4 stages. I think I should be able to get 29, or maybe 30B if I'm lucky.

Ikaruga (X360) Easy mode 1CC get!
Not exactly the hardest thing, and I didn't score terribly well (17 something million), but I cleared it, finally. And with 3 stock too, despite a laughably dumb Stone-Like fight.
I've been playing this game for years; it's nice to feel like I've accomplished something with it. I can comfortably say that it is one of the most frustrating shooting games I've ever played. It's so simple in concept, and so brutally mocking when you deviate the slightest bit from the one correct execution. I don't think I will put more time into it.
Wanted to get back into Mushihime-sama, but didn't feel like jumping straight into Ultra practice, so I played a couple rounds of Original. Got the clears as S-Power and then as M-Power (I'd already cleared as W-Power). The former actually went pretty well; cleared with two stock, would've been three but for a silly miss to the last boss.

1cc on Stellavanity (Easy, Rank 0, Lemulene-C)
Still a long way to go, but I'm happy with finally getting a 1cc. (then somehow managed to get to Stage 7 on Normal, at Rank 1. Probably could have been a clear if I'd intentionally stayed at 0 by taking a hit)
Replay for whoever might be interested: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/239 ... play01.dat
(yes, I suck at knowing when to shift)
Pteriforever: now try to Phantasm mode!

Clipped 21 million in a Normal Course clear of Battle Bakraid. I've been practicing Cyclops, getting out the boss milk jug, and I'm thinking that a good clear, with Axebeak, Cyclops, and decent chains on Naval and Seaside, I'll be looking at 25-30 million in the next week or so.
Feedback will set you free.

A wonderful X-mas for me today!!
Raiden (PC Engine) 1st 1cc get!!!

Had a single mishap at stage 1-3, which resulted in losing a life, but managed to one-life up to stage 2-4, where I had a dodging blunder at the boss.
