I just give a few Steam games (mostly wishlist stuff and shmups, of course) as gifts and be on my way. If people want to send me stuff, that's great! If not, oh well. I don't expect people to buy things for me anyway.

I had a hot pot with my friends last night and the time spent dining with them--especially since three of those friends live an hour away and two of those particular friends don't drive and therefore have limited means of transit--is pretty much a gift in and of itself. Quality time with those I care about > material gifts.

Amen to that mate, having a good time with friends is why I insist on birthdays/christmas not to buy me anything but actually hang out with me for a bit.

Besides, my taste for stuff I buy is too expensive for most of my mates. If they want to give me a present so badly just give me money and let me do the shopping.

Ack, any time I dream of having something I want and then waking up and realizing that I don't have it [especially if I somehow purchased it in the dream, instead of just outright having it throughout the dream] is the worst. It's usually a better PC or something that runs <insert game that doesn't run well on any of my current machines> at full speed. Or futuristic tech, like a hovercar.

They come out of nowhere, and last seemingly as long as they want, and when they finally end you're afraid of laughing at anything or even of walking because that might start them up again. I wish I could make myself immune to hiccups.

Meh, I'm used to my favorite games also being poorly received. I just ignore it.

On another note, car alarms. Do they actually reduce car theft? Maybe it may draw the owner's attention, but bystanders may simply ignore the car alarm whether an actual theft is going on or not.

Also, car alarms are usually activated with remote devices. Dropped the remote somewhere? Pray whoever dropped it isn't a thief, because while stabbing random car keyholes with a found key will very much look suspicious, a thief with a remote can simply press the remote's unlock button while the remote is in their pocket until they notice a car responding to it.

It's for this reason that I just use my physical, non-wireless key to lock and unlock my car. (Okay, so the other reason is I lost the remote.)
