It's ridiculous that it's so difficult to watch good TV in 3rd world countries.

Japanese TV is so fucking terrible. There was a dance contest show on last night (much like "Americas Best Dance Crew", or whatever it's called) and THIS guy (or one that looks exactly like him):

Image

..was telling the people that didn't make the cut that "they don't understand hip-hop", or "what it means to live by the hip-hop spirit". Of course it was in that round-a-bout, never to the point Japanese way. My eyes almost rolled to the back of my head. I suspect that the 14 year old girls who were in tears will do their best to live a hip-hop lifestyle (like he no doubt does) from now on.

Yeah, that dude clearly knows the hip-hop spirit.

WTF

Thanks for the tip.

And yes, brent, you'd be surprised what you'd go through to watch TV once you get out of the nest. And as rancor pointed out, the alternatives are fucking ludicrous. How can a country be so advanced as to invest ass-wiping toilets, but be so awful at making TV and porn?

Well if you get it working, you need to watch The Newsroom.

Yep, sure did. Not a huge fan of Jeff Daniels and it's hard to see him be such a serious hard ass while all the time back in my head I hear him say, "No, just doggie style..." but it was very enjoyable.

Not really a spoiler per se, but...

Worth noting, there's an episode about halfway in where a character speaks Japanese... not as good as mine (of course), but there's no question they actor actually speaks Japanese. Rare to see that.

EDIT: Only thing I do not like about the show is that Maggy is pretty fucking wretched. Eyes are way too close together. I imagine she's an awful ride.

I hadn't really thought about it, but I'll try to work it out. At least she's loyal..

For those in Japan, you can always get a BS/CS box or a tuner card for PC where you can see all of the channels for free....much better content on there but all of the Western content is old....

You showed us all the braodcast television setup you have at your house, and my mind is still blown and I don't fully understand it. :?
You're on a higher level of TV access than I can even fathom. In fact every TV/monitor situation in your house melts my brain. That living room TV is a beast, and you've got practically every console ever made hooked up to it.

Shou: Once I'm over Jetlag i'll try to swing by and check out your setup. Will save you a few bucks on my shipping you that board. ;) When you say "all the broadcast channels for free" are you just talking about the normal ones? my provider offers Hikari TV for like... 3800 yen a month. That would basically be 3800 yen down the tubes as I watch shit. As per your statement ,the whitey shit is like 2 years old at best.

Rancor: I got a roku, so that's something to play with for a while.

Brent: Hey, her tits aren't too bad. But yeah, she doesn't do it for me at all. The executive producer chick is a bit annoying as well.

Okay, I got the roku, and I'm trying out a VPN. The speeds seem okay, but I have one caveat. The VPN provider requires software, and their software doesn't play nice w/ OSX's native internet sharing. So, they've got a script available to tunnel, and it works fine. Once you're running it, you must then point whatever device to the device running the tunnel as the default gateway. I've not been able to set this in my roku. I jerry-rigged it by changing the IP of the default gateway on the router (which changes it for all subsequent DHCP requests), but this is hardly ideal. Am I missing something?

Basically what it looks like is this:
1) For my devices to access the outside world via VPN, I need to point them to my tunnel's IP as the default gateway
2) Roku doesn't support this

So, that sucks. I guess the trick would be to have the router somehow tell it a different default gateway to use but I'm sure this would require quite a hack. Some have it configurable. Cock sando.

Where there is a will there is a way and watching hulu in Poland or watching Pandora in Serbia no big deal. Get myself to the nearest wi-fi hot spot, switch on my iPad and that’s it: Streaming VPN, thank you guys!
