Bullets and Toothpicks, Godfrey Ho and a famous photographer

Post by Skykid »

Eurogamer article on gaming in Hong Kong: console launches and arcades.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013- ... ming-scene

Didn't go entirely according to plan regarding certain aspects of the publishing, but them's the breaks, it's out of my hands.

Collaborated with a superb photographer who you might well recognise, many thanks to he for his assistance and wicked eye.

After watching a patron clear Final Fight on a credit, dangling cigarette burned almost to his lips as Belger goes out the window, I asked why he chose to commit so much effort to mastering Capcom's classic.

"There's nothing else to play," he shrugged, gesturing around.
That's so beautiful and yet so sad. :'(

Dream team!

Also, I'm super dense to not realize until now the point behind the articles you've been linking to.

I didn't make it explicitly clear I suppose. ;) Thanks for taking a look Mort.

In-case anyone hasn't seen GP's work, here's the full HK set in all its glory:

First, I was disappointed that there was only one mention of Godfrey Ho.

Secondly, I was excited, hoping that the Shenmue 2 experience is just something that happens to everyone there. I was summarily disappointed.

All the same, I enjoyed the travelogue article and half suspect the title of this forum topic was to specifically get some attention.

Gundam Vs. games are popular in Hong Kong? They seem to be really big in Japan and Asia, it seems. The virtual reality mech aspect of it sounds pretty cool.

Oh no, I can recommend a couple of neighbourhoods where you'll definitely get the Shenmue II experience. Whether or not your survive the QTE entirely depends on how fast you are on your feet though!

Indeed, that eye-catching title took some work. But you did get a famous photographer, and at least one mention of Godfrey Ho, who you surely realise was entirely included for you and no-one else.

You mean Senjō no Kizuna? Yes - not VR as such, but a wraparound screen that gives a peripheral view of the battlefield (that you really don't need, you only look straight ahead really).

Other Gundam vs. Games, those on normal cabs with sticks and buttons, seem to be in most arcades.

Well I'm touched. :D

I'll keep this article in mind if I ever want to aimlessly walk around Hong Kong and mildly annoy people with inane questions all day.

It always interested me though to think that these type of Gundam games have been around for -what, over a decade now?
