So, Youtube is basically committing suicide at this point.
Re: So, Youtube is basically committing suicide at this poin
People hating Google+ are ridiculous.
It's legitimately a better platform for social networking than Facebook, and its only issue is its absence of a large userbase--not because people are too lazy to register an account with Google, but because people are too stubborn to use whatever is available to them. The gay bear community THRIVES on G+ because they all migrated to this wonderful, free-to-use network after being repeatedly burned by shitty services like bear411.
That being said, why the hell do you care that you have to tie a Google+ account to your YouTube account? They still give you the option to post under a pseudonym, do they not?

Google+ alone is okay, it's the only social media I'm (supposedly) a part of.
I agree about the anonymity bit, though people who want to have a channel on YT tied to their name (assuming anybody actually did) is gonna be outta luck if they get strikes like rancor did. Otherwise, yeah, pretty much everybody knows about the resupray / retsupurae / etc. renaming "similar but different" people use to move from channel to channel so that's not news. However it is a problem if your channel is locked out from underneath you and you can't even leave a notice to people stating a move. Of course, this is just what Google and the IP trolls want; they don't want you coming back.
If I have this correct, having three pieces of media that are subject to copyright claims can get you knocked out at any time, at random, just like rancor was. If you're unlucky, just having three pieces that could be subject to claims (and some of them are baloney) puts you at risk of getting knocked out right away.

I always log in to Youtube as cstarflare, but every once in a while I realize I'm logged in with my real name (my guess has been that it changes if I log into my gmail account). When I log out to change the name I'm using, the log in process seems to imply that I'm logging in with my G+ account so I spend a while looking for a way to log in as cstarflare until I remember that you choose after you log in.Skub wrote:That being said, why the hell do you care that you have to tie a Google+ account to your YouTube account? It's just kind an annoying thing when two sites that should function separately (and did for years) suddenly start stepping on each other's toes.

I got a Google+ acct just to see if I could comment and use it to read other messages. Not sure if I couldn't figure it out because of myself, or because it's trying to be FaceTwitterSpaceBlogger.
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.

Glad I'm not the only person who thinks this. The G+ integration was a great idea, and G+ is loads better than Facebook; the only issue is that nobody uses it because OMG GOOGLE IS MAKING ME BLAH BLAH BLAH.Skub wrote:People hating Google+ are ridiculous.

I would like it if it was easy to switch back and forth between a YT handle and your real name, depending on the situation.
G+ itself seems pretty nice...aren't the posts sorta curated by an up-down vote system? That's loads better than most of the other systems with no prioritization for good stuff.

I'm not getting what makes G+ better than Facebook atm.
Right now, G+ is a nuisance, and according to skub, gay.
If Google wants people to actually engage their service, they need to create a meaningful incentive to do so beyond, "I only have it because Youtube are dicks, follow me on FB/Twitter".

Not having to deal with dipshits on Faceplant or Twits to follow professional / serious conversations.
Re: So, Youtube is basically committing suicide at this poin
EXACTLY. They should be happy that people put footage of their games on YouTube. I definitely agree that uploading an entire movie onto YouTube means that people can watch it for free and therefore the movie company won't get any money from it. But when it comes to video games, just watching a video of somebody else playing the game is definitely no substitute for actually playing the game yourself!MOSQUITO FIGHTER wrote:I think it's a really dumb move. You'd think the game publishers would appreciate getting what basically amounts to free advertising. I'm surprised they aren't doing more to encourage it actually.
So I found this page discussing video games and software featured in videos:
https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/138161?hl=en
After the crap last month about the Google+ integration (it is a bit of a good idea, but forcing it on people is not), I signed up with a Vimeo account. However, they allow no video game-related videos at all. Forget that! I signed up for a DailyMotion account, but that site doesn't seem to get a lot of traffic. I'm not in it for monetization. I have nearly 1,500 subscribers, but maybe my channel can go up in a poof because many of my videos feature music incidentally playing in the background while I recorded something somewhere. Is the fact that a song by Animal Collective can be barely heard over the garble of me inside of a store going to prevent anyone from purchasing the song legally? "Oh, I was thinking of buying Animal Collective's CD, but now I don't need to because I can just listen to 40 seconds' worth of a garbled version of it in one of Greg's videos when he's filming a store's action figure selection."
There really needs to be some common sense here.

"Common sense" and "copyright law" don't tend to go hand-in-hand.

The people who'd be generally interested in using G+ are for the most part probably already using Facebook.trap15 wrote:Glad I'm not the only person who thinks this. And the people who don't want to use Facebook obviously aren't going to be very pleased if they suddenly get a Facebook clone forced on them.

This simply sums up the dillema best. I have said the same thing and it took a few paragraphs, but you captured the essence of the problem in just two sentences.HenAi wrote:The people who'd be generally interested in using G+ are for the most part probably already using Facebook.

Now I have a G+ account and I never cared to have one in the first place. And inadvertently I now have three different YouTube accounts and all I ever wanted was just one. If I delete the other two, will my real channel get deleted too by mistake? I don't want to find out.

Actually just found myself in a Google+ discussion looking up the YT 60 FPS situation and it's easy to say I found it much more helpful than Faceplant ever could hope to be.
My experience with Twitter? Took me long enough to figure out how to link directly to a tweet, and in researching the John Carmack comments on PC vs. Android lag I noticed there were a couple really interesting posts of his buried way down in the feed. There weren't any obnoxious morons at the thread but that can easily happen too.
The only thing I don't care for is that it's laid out like a normal forum thread, but with +/- vote buttons. I'd rather it worked a bit more like Reddit or some other vote-curated system where you can bury the idiots.
