Man this game looks stellar! It's like a modern take of old school style shmups and with a twist, angle switching. I like it alot, and it looks like G.Rev has the potential to be a top player in the shmup business in the future. I really hope Under Defeat gets a PS2 release.

Yeah, I'm with you on that! I definately prefer oldschool style shmups, and this looks like one of the best I've ever seen! :D

Seems like the controls are very similar to those of Volk in Sonic Wings Special, whom I always thought to be a very interesting character to play with. I wasn't very interested in Under Defeat before, but now I'm eager to hear more impressions.

That is some very nice footage there.

Damn it, I wish G.Rev would just bring this and Senko no Ronde to Dreamcast. No way in hell would I ever get one; not enough games on there to interest me. :(

P.S. And no I am not interested in all the Xbox Media business. Too mainstream and outside of what I do normally.

Wow, nice impressions, SF! The fact that the game encourages different and creative approaches to use of your options has me intrigued. Vertical heli shmup with a touch of R-TYPE ya say? I'm in. :) Now give us a DC port please, GRev cuz I don't wanna have to get a modded 360. Oh wait, Senko No Ronde, I already do have to. :( :P

I love my DC as much as the next guy but it's a dead console guys, I'm not going to hold my breath for a port.

Console fanboys: I'd rather a game of this quality have any kind of home port. I don't care if it comes out for the FM Marty just as long as it has a port. If it comes out for the 360, so be it, I was going to buy one eventually anyway.

Dave: please stop getting all your information from the homeless guy who lives behind Gamecrazy. It just leads to horrible rumors.

Anyway does this game have a weird scoring system the more you play it? Ikaruga like scoring is about as complicated as I'll go when it comes to scoring systems. I'm also kind of scared of the big hitbox thing. I'm so used to pixel wide hitboxes that it's disturbing.

When I get a Xbox 360, it'll likely be the import one. The US lineup of games doesn't look so hot. Besides, I'm not passing up Senko no Ronde.

Now back to UD. The way the battleship goes down in stage 1-2 is awesome. After it sits there spewing smoke for a bit, there are a couple big explosions, then the sucker is cleft clean in half. This is detailed right down to the gun turrets on the ship aiming upward before launching the shells. Boss death scenes have even more bang than Border Down.

G.Rev is getting a lot out of the Naomi with this one. No wonder they weren't in such a hurry to go to Type-X. Yack's BGM is good as expected here.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

As a complete package it looks supurb, Is it known how many stages there are in total yet?

IMO, it wouldn't kill Sega financially to let in one or two Dreamcast games a year; it might even benefit them given how much better Naomi-based games look then Type-X games. Not supporting Dreamcast online anymore, I can understand. But pulling the rug completely out from under the Dreamcast when there are still brilliant games like Under Defeat and Senko coming seems pretty stupid.

I'm not gonna say that this game would look like crap on another console, but, at the same time, Naomi-based games obviously look best on Naomi hardware.

And as far as "rumors" go, that was actually someone from this forum who told me about the HD vs. non-HD thing, via AIM, and that's the last I'm gonna say about it.

That's a great question; although I personally wouldn't be bothered if the number was as low as five, given how much G.Rev has put into this game.

It should be 2 loops of five stages, to my knowledge.

Hiroyuki Maruyama has been interviewed by the french site dream-storming
(go to focus/articles)

highlights: (everyting in [] is added by me to provide context)
-it is likely g-rev will use the naomi again for future games. they are interested in new hardware like the lindbergh, but in the current arcade market, there is no real alternative [to the naomi, for a small company like g-rev]
-on the likeliness of a DC port: unlikely, because of their sales estimations compared with development charge. still, the DC is always a possibility they keep in mind. at least, the possibility isn't 0%.

Rats. Then again, the Dreamcast's flow of games had to end sometime. UD would be a nice way to send the DC out with a bang though. Then again we could get lucky- hopefully Maruyama just doesn't want to let onto the possibility of a port at the current time, since the game is still only days old in arcades.

That interview confuses me so. If you read their earlier Sendo No Rondo interview there's not a mention of a possible DC port, but the Under Defeat one says "We doubt it but don't rule it out".

So G.Rev...what do you want? TELL ME DAMN YOU, TELL ME!!!!!

OK, I'm better. *-neo

"To be honest, the dreamcast doesn’t present itself as a favourable situation for us. This decision is based on the way gaming is today, development costs, and sales. That said, the option to port to Dreamcast is always there for us and is always looked into. So don’t think that there’s NO chance of there ever being a new Dreamcast title."

He is refering to future titles to be ported.
