Mortal Kombat Trilogy vs Mortal Kombat 3

Post by Pshooter »

I pickied up MK Trilogy for the PS1 yesterday, and is it just me or is the framerate not is high/smooth as MK 3 for the PS1 ? I thoight I remembered the character animations being very fluid in MK3 for the PS1, but in MK Trilogy they look more like the SNES version.

All I remember of MK3 onthe PS1 was the long ass loading on Shang's transformations.

MK Trilogy was the better game in terms of content and loading.
I could be wrong but the animation seemed fine to me.

what are the three different versions, and how do you tell which one you have?

It's hard to tell, Midway has several versions of its games, sometimes the differences will be negligable because it's all coding-side running of the game stuff. Removal of operating glitches and stuff. I think there were what, six Mortal Kombat 3 games released in the arcades? Only a couple got wide circulation though.

Gets tricky with fighting games, there have been plenty of instances of a Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution Final Tuned done to different versions/ports of a game but without the title actually being changed, like GG and Garou on the Dreamcast and such.

MKTrilogy is the better game overall. I believe it has slightly smaller sprite sizes than the MK3 port as well as some frame cuts in order to get all the characters in there? Ironic that the system now iconic for making 3D graphics super mainstream got it's huge Christmas business boost due entirely to having the best port of MK3. I remember they had it playing on the Sony jumbotron in Times Square on the launch day.
