At this point there shouldn't be any reason at all for indie developers to favor the Xbone over the PS4.

At any rate, I'll be getting a Wii U for Christmas. I'd actually like a PS4, but it's so expensive that It'd be the only thing I get.

There's only a handful of games I want (well, 1 right now - Pikmin 3) but the region locking may or may not be irksome in the future. What the fuck?

I'm waiting for it to drop to £150 (sales or otherwise). Which should happen around Spring (and in time for Mario Kart). Or wait until December 2014.

Not that I live anywhere near Japan or actually really care a whole lot, but the Xbox One will be sold at some point in Japan, right? I mean I saw an episode of EP daily last night before going to bed and they interviewed somebody from some development team about a game that is supposed to show off the power of the new Kinect, though they mentioned they were in Tokyo (having this interview at some kind of event). You could clearly make out it was Japan as they were the only 2 white guys, and a bunch of Japanese writing in the background. Or has microsoft already announced this and I've just missed it.

Speaking of Wii U, how would that work for Wii games on HDMI? Does the TV have to upscale the signal from 480p? I know the Nintendo folks say it will still render at the original resolution but I'd be rather surprised if they didn't have an upscaler in there.

Might get the Wii U (eventually) anyways just for access to the Wii library - there's some games in there I like, and at least a couple on the Wii U.

What I find most bewildering is that some Wii games wouldn't in fact output 480p. See Monster Hunter Tri and Kororinpa (interlaced-only). That would explain why Kororinpa has got such a bad rep for the graphics, whereas its 480i on a CRT looks pretty rad to me ("one of the best looking Wii games" isn't saying much, but this time I mean it).
Shit, Kororinpa gives me the same kind of buzz Super Monkey Ball and now Super Mario 3D World does. I want more as well as friggin' Mode 7, 2.5D, you name it. Those things look simply good to me.

Ahh thanks for the info. Strange that they flew somebody out to Japan for an interview when they could have easily just had it back in the states. I'm not sure of the game title, but I think it was Project Shards or something similar. Looked like nothing that hasn't been done before though.

I don`t think getting a WiiU mainly to play Wii games is a good idea considering that you`ll have to pass up on the benefits of a softmodded Wii which are plentiful. Just get a Wii(which I think you can get for less than $150 now), a component cable(or at least SCART), an external HDD and an SD card. Then follow this guide to softmod it. It may look a bit intimidating at first glance, but the process is actually fairly simple and pretty much brick-proof(unless, of course, you seriously mess something up during the lead-up to the NAND backup - like if the WADs turn out to have incorrect checksum and you fail to verify it). Install the Wii(and Gamecube if your Wii has GC BC) games to the HDD using any of the loaders(I prefer USB loader GX) and never deal with the DVD-drive again unless to install more games.

It`s possible to get this soft mod running on a WiiU, but it requires a softmodded Wii with installed WiiFlow.

I'm a far cry from buying a Wii U to play Wii games on it, but if (I say "if") the stories of upscaling are true, this has to count for something. SDTV signal is shockingly mishandled in a number of Wii games.
Having said that, I would have more use for a CRT with component input than Wii U all the same.

On the Wii? Very good. I have yet to find a game that doesn't work properly. You even get the option to output at either 240p, 480i, or 480p. With Component cables, it looks fantastic.

Also, every Sega CD game works on the Wii, and it has played every PCE CD game I have thrown at it, including Sapphire. The N64 emulation is poor, but the titles that were brought to the VC are fantastic. So, you at least get some good quality N64 stuff.

Genesis/MD/Mega CD all work great. Have had no issues. Amiga, I have some of the shmups, like Apidya, running on there just fine, but some games, like Turrican, give me a fuss. I have't dove too far into Amiga stuff yet though, so not sure if its a case of poor roms, or inaccuracy with the Wii's emulator.

I think there are Neo Geo titles on the VC, and if so I'm sure those work great, but I haven't tested the Neo Geo emulator on there. Mame is crap though.

Mednafen is what you'll want to use to run the Turbo/PCE games, and as a bonus it can emulate Wonderswan games!

Depends on your local market, with some wheeling and dealing I'd expect you could get a Wii with all that for effectively nothing...

That would be weird if true! When I hook my Wii up to a CRT and run an SNES emulator, I seem to get 240p. In the Video options, there is no setting for 240p, but when I leave it on "Automatic" I get dem scanlines.

Although, maybe my system being modded affected that? (Although I'm not sure how someone would run an emulator without modding their system)
